The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 6

Winona let out a quiet, melancholy sigh. She replied, "This is the only gift I can give my daughter. I just hope that when Tiana grows up, she'll remember she once had a birth mother who loved her."

Louis felt a sudden sting in his nose, fighting back emotion. "Why not fight for her? Maybe she'd choose to stay with you."

Fight for her?

Winona's voice turned hoarse and distant. "Since last summer, Tiana's started to resent me. And now she's constantly saying she wants Felicity as her mother…"

Louis fell silent. He had no idea how to comfort Winona, so he simply pressed on. "Did you already file the divorce papers with the court?"

"Yes. I've made it impossible to back out. I emailed you the signed agreement and sent a copy straight to the court. When the deadline passes, that's it. There'll be no changing my mind, even if I want to." Winona said, her tone as calm and detached as if she were talking about someone else's life.

But Louis could hear the heartbreak in her voice.

How broken must she be inside, to leave herself no room for second thoughts?

"Nona, if you want to cry, just let it out," he said gently, his heart aching for her.

But Winona only smiled. "I don't feel like crying. Honestly."

She was done dwelling. It was time to move on.

There went her life savings, all to Tiana. Now she was starting from scratch and needed to make money yesterday. She couldn't afford to waste a single moment.

After parting ways with Louis and returning home, Winona headed straight for her study, throwing herself back into finalizing her integrated care facility blueprint.

While finishing her notes, she realized she had left something at Julian's.

More precisely, it was a sketch. About two weeks ago, while putting Tiana to bed, inspiration had struck. She'd torn a piece of colored paper from Tiana's arts-and-crafts supplies and jotted down her ideas, using the nearest marker. Since she'd been in Tiana's room, she'd quickly tucked the sketch into one of her daughter's storybooks.

That sketch was crucial for her project plan.

Remembering that Julian always took Tiana to his parents' for lunch on Saturdays, Winona decided to stop by the house the next morning to get her sketch.
