The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 8

"When are we getting the divorce papers?"

Just as Winona was about to speak, Felicity shrugged, her tone careless. "No need to apologize to me. I'm not that petty. You really ought to go to the hospital and apologize to little Victor instead—"

"Enough." Winona's voice was calm, but it cut through the room.

Felicity was momentarily speechless. "What?" she finally managed, her voice faint with disbelief.

"This is my house," Winona said, her tone icy. "You're standing in my living room, holding my husband and my daughter's hands, while lecturing me. Do you want me to call the police and have you arrested for being a homewrecker right this second?"

Felicity fell silent.

After a moment, she let out a cold laugh. "Unbelievable." With a dismissive wave, she turned and headed for the dining room, not bothering to argue further.

Winona looked straight at Julian. "Julian, I've seen enough soap operas to know how this goes. One spouse doesn't hand the divorce papers over in person, they send someone else, and the whole thing spirals into a giant misunderstanding. I don't want that. I'm giving you these papers myself, so please sign them as soon as you can. And—"

She turned, her gaze resting on Tiana.

Her voice was hoarse with pain. "Since you've already convinced Tiana she'll be getting a new mom, I hope you'll always treat her like she's your greatest treasure. As long as she can grow up happy and healthy, I'll pretend… I never… gave birth… to her."

She barely managed to finish the sentence before she turned and fled the house.

She couldn't stay a moment longer. If she did, she would break down completely.

Yes, she'd already chosen to let go of Tiana. But hearing Tiana say, with her own ears, that she didn't want her, that she should just leave—nothing could have prepared her for the pain. It was like getting struck by lightning; every nerve in her body screamed.

No sooner had Winona left the house than Julian's phone rang—Shera was calling, telling him to come to the hospital.

Julian wasted no time. He drove straight to the city's children's hospital, taking Felicity and Tiana with him directly to the hematology unit.

Outside the patient ward, Julian's parents were waiting—Forrest Nicholson, Janetta—and Shera, whose eyes were red and swollen from crying.
