"I don't want to be shipped off to the middle of nowhere," Winona replied quietly. "But I don't want to die, either."

"What's that supposed to mean? You think just because you're making a scene in front of everyone, flirting with me, I'll help you?" Yves asked, his tone cool and unimpressed.

"Let's make a deal," Winona said, her face as unreadable as his.

Yves leaned in, intrigued. "And what could you possibly offer me that's worth making a deal?"

He could sense she had secrets—a story, maybe even a bombshell.
