THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 285

“Thank you.”

That was Caitlin’s reply.

Not a denial.

So, Gordon’s suspicion was correct.

She was going back to The Capital.

She was returning to The Capital.

From now on, The Capital would be her home.

Staring at Caitlin’s WhatsApp message, Gordon’s sharp eyes narrowed, dark as ink—bottomless.

--

The Capital.

Amanda Gonzales stood at the arrivals gate with her husband, Gavin Templeton, and their daughter Ann, each holding a bouquet of flowers. The family of three waited for Caitlin’s return.

Ann was clearly annoyed. “Mom, Dad, isn’t this a bit much? The whole family coming to the airport? She’s just some divorced country nobody! Why do I have to be here?”

Just thinking about it made her feel like it was beneath her.

After all, she was a proper society girl.

Gavin glanced at his watch, unfazed. “Appearances matter, Ann. If you want to achieve anything, you can’t fuss over details. Sure, she’s just a divorced country girl—but she’s also your grandmother’s own granddaughter.”

As soon as Gavin finished, Amanda chimed in, “And it’s not just your grandmother and Freya’s aunt here today. I heard that Hannah and the Richards family—with all eight of their sons and thirteen grandchildren—are coming too.”

Ann’s eyes brightened at that. “Mom! Really? Daniel Richards is coming too?”

Amanda smiled and nodded. “Of course he is.”

“That’s wonderful!” Ann’s sour mood vanished instantly.

It had been a week since she’d seen Daniel. Once he saw his darling Ann, he’d be over the moon.

Amanda wept as if Caitlin truly was her long-lost treasure.

Ann sniffled convincingly, “Freya, I’m your big sister—do you still remember me?”

Gavin handed his flowers to Fortune, “You must be Mr. Kensington, right? I’m Freya’s uncle. Thank you for raising her all these years. Without you, who knows what she might’ve gone through.”

The family’s performance—tears and all—was flawless. No outsider would ever suspect a thing.

Keira stepped in, introducing Caitlin. “Freya, this is your aunt, your uncle, and your cousin Ann.”

Cousin.

Ann bristled at the way Keira emphasized the word “cousin”—was that really necessary?

But she kept her expression in check, eyes red as she added, “Freya, we’ve waited so long for you to come home.”

Caitlin greeted each person in turn. “Aunt, Uncle, Cousin.”

Amanda wiped her eyes, then took Caitlin’s arm. “Mother, Freya, and everyone—let’s head home first. The airport isn’t the place to catch up. After all, Freya and her father haven’t seen each other for years—I’m sure she’s eager to see him.”
