Victor never imagined he’d run into Caitlin here of all places.
What’s more, he would never have guessed that the long-lost granddaughter the Gonzales family had just welcomed home was actually Caitlin.
For a moment, Victor could hardly trust his own eyes.
“Miss Kensington?!”
The entire hall fell silent the instant Victor addressed Caitlin by that name.
Everyone turned to stare at Victor, their faces blank with confusion.
Carla’s eyes widened.
Hadn’t Ann just introduced this girl as Freya?
So why was Victor calling her Miss Kensington?
Could it be...?
Could Caitlin really be the mysterious power behind Apex Game Studios?
The possibility left Carla utterly stunned.
No, that couldn’t be, could it?
Ann was equally floored, frozen for a few seconds before forcing a smile. “So, Mr. Winslow, you know my cousin too? I’m surprised you even know her old surname was Kensington.”
Ann simply couldn’t believe Caitlin was Miss Kensington. Surely Victor was just being polite.
“Not just know her,” Victor replied.
Not just know her?
Ann exhaled in relief.
Of course. There was no way a nobody from a small village like Caitlin could ever be in the same circles as Victor.
Only someone like her could possibly have that kind of connection!
The thought brought a smug little smile to Ann’s lips.
Ann felt her ears ringing, as if something had exploded right beside her.
What was Victor saying? That Caitlin was the hidden force behind Apex Game Studios?
“Mr. Winslow, surely you’re joking!” Ann’s face went pale.
She’d gone to such trouble to invite Victor to the Gonzales estate today, all to show off in front of the Ryan family. But if Caitlin turned out to be the mysterious investor everyone gossiped about, then what did that make her?
A fool. A clown dancing for everyone’s amusement.
She remembered boasting just moments ago that Miss Kensington from Apex was some woman in her forties—her face burned with embarrassment.
All she could hope was that Victor was playing some elaborate prank.
Otherwise…
She’d be the laughingstock of the night.
But Victor’s gaze was steady, his tone unyielding. “Miss Templeton, why would I joke about something like this? If not for Miss Kensington, Apex would have ceased to exist a long time ago.”
