She’d just stepped out of the shower.
Now she was lounging in pastel pink pajamas dotted with little bunnies, her damp hair clinging softly to her cheeks. She looked as cozy and sweet as a marshmallow, completely different from her usual polished self.
Gordon watched her, too. His deep, fox-like eyes were filled with affection as he asked, “Did Grandma Keira come back with you?”
“No,” Caitlin shook her head. “She’ll come back tomorrow. I’m staying to take my grandma to visit my grandpa’s grave.” Originally, Keira had planned to return with Caitlin, but something had come up, and she had to leave early.
Gordon’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Did you already buy your tickets?”
“Yep, they’re all set,” Caitlin replied.
“Send me the details. I’ll pick you up the day after tomorrow.”
Caitlin pulled up the confirmation page, snapped a screenshot, and sent it to him.
Once Gordon received it, he grinned. “Catie, before our call, I had a peach. Want to guess what kind?”
“Hmm… a white peach?” Caitlin guessed.
“Nope.” Gordon shook his head.
She thought again, more seriously this time. “A starfruit?”
“Still not it.”
She tried again. “Grapes, then?”
He chuckled, “Wrong again—it was a ‘can’t-help-but-love-you’ peach.”
It was the kind of cheesy pickup line that should’ve been embarrassing.
But Gordon’s voice, low and velvety, made even the corniest joke sound irresistible.
Caitlin burst out laughing. “Who knew Mr. Sylvester had such a knack for dreadful pickup lines?”
Gordon puffed up with mock pride. “Of course! I have a whole arsenal of them, you know.”
