According to reports from their Ravenshade spies, Dan and Reid were whisked away by a mysterious group, and their whereabouts are still a mystery. No one knows if they're alive or not.
Even though Melissa's plan didn't go as expected, the fallout wasn't all that bad. As for Mirabella, it was a shame she made it through the ambush, but it didn’t really change the outcome. Even if Nick managed to stick around, he'd be voted out soon, making Penelope the obvious heir. Those siblings didn't stand a chance, and Keir's branch wouldn't be running the Davis family anymore.
The elder was mulling this over when he stood up, ready to get the meeting started. Just then, Grady strolled in casually.
"Hope I'm not too late?" he said, drawing everyone's attention.
Grady, with his usual stoic demeanor, had been Keir's right-hand man for years, and his presence alone commanded respect. Reid followed him in.
The elder and Jaime weren’t too surprised by Grady's entrance, but seeing Reid threw them for a loop.
Grady made his way to the elder, a slight smirk on his face. "Miss Mira is tied up, so I'm here for her. You wouldn’t mind, would you, Elder?"
Their eyes met, and after a moment, the elder smiled back. "Since Grady speaks, it's all good."
"Glad to hear it," Grady nodded. "You’ve always been so gracious, Elder."
He then took the empty seat next to Nick. A flicker of irritation crossed the elder's face, but he couldn’t openly challenge Grady’s thinly-veiled sarcasm. Instead, he commented, "Even though you're standing in for Miss Mira, her guild assignment hasn't been handed in yet?"
Grady lifted his chin, signaling to Reid.
Reid stood tall, placing the contract he brought on the table in front of the elder. "We actually signed the contract when we got there, but the mayor's hospitality kept us busy, so it took a bit longer. Sorry about that," Reid explained, though everyone could tell there was a purpose behind his words.
