The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1905

Mirabella's gaze was icy as she swiftly moved to the divided platform at the center of the room. The stones in the grooves had lost their shine, but the mechanism kept spinning, holding the portal open. Without hesitating, she reached for the stones.

Maverick caught Mirabella's actions out of the corner of his eye and his expression shifted instantly. "Don't you dare! Don't you want to save Paxton and the others?"

Mirabella's fingers paused briefly. She glanced at Maverick, her voice as cold as ice. "The same trick again? Do you really think I'd fall for it twice?"

She remembered everything now, including the real power of time reversal. If the council elders still had a spark of life, there might have been hope to save them. But now... their life force was gone, and there was no chance of bringing them back.

Mirabella turned her attention back to the spinning mechanism, her fingers tense before finally relaxing. Since nothing could be reversed, it was fitting for everything to end today. Perhaps this was the last thing she could do for the elders and the Massolio family.

Maverick hadn't expected Mirabella to ignore everything else. He swallowed the metallic taste rising in his throat. "Stop her, now!"

The nearby henchmen received the order and lunged at Mirabella, their strength suggesting they were not ordinary foes. But before they could reach her, James stepped in.

Standing with his back to Mirabella, James slightly tilted his head, his voice calm and steady. "Do what you need to do. I've got the rest."

"Okay."

Without looking back, Mirabella quickly spun the mechanism counterclockwise twice, causing it to halt. She removed the stones, and Maverick's face darkened as he realized he'd failed to stop her.

The stones weren't just keys; their energy was crucial for keeping the portal open. Once removed, the portal would soon close, making reopening it nearly impossible. There were no other stones like these, and it was uncertain if they could reopen the portal.

Maverick's expression was stormy as he watched the portal begin to close, knowing it would fully shut within a minute. No, he couldn't let years of planning go to waste! Clenching his teeth, Maverick ignored Mirabella and, standing at the edge of the portal, prepared to leap into the darkness.

If he reached the future, surely he'd find a way to reopen the portal. But Mirabella had anticipated this. Before he could jump, she turned and kicked him back.

"I told you, you'll never have that chance," Mirabella said, clutching the stones. She paused, a sardonic smile on her lips. "Regretting teaching me mechanics now?"

She didn't know how to activate the mechanism, but destroying it was a piece of cake.

Maverick clutched his chest, already wounded, and now bleeding further from Mirabella's kick. Steadying himself, he glared at her with cold eyes. "You're just an experiment to me. No matter how strong you are, killing me won't change anyone's fate."

The dead stayed dead, and he wanted to see how his prized pupil would live with that knowledge.

Mirabella didn't reply, her eyes showing no emotion. She moved towards Maverick, ready to strike without hesitation. Maverick, weakened and injured, was no match for her. Meanwhile, James kept the henchmen occupied, preventing any interference.

As time ticked by, the portal's entrance grew smaller. Maverick's eyes widened in desperation, regretting not controlling Mirabella from the start. He had indeed underestimated her.

"You never fail to surprise," Maverick said coldly, swallowing the metallic taste in his mouth as he pulled out a pill and swallowed it. Instantly, his pain vanished, replaced by a surge of strength, his wounds healing visibly.

Maverick stood tall, his face colder than ever, despite the transformation. The drug that healed wounds so rapidly was a last resort, its side effects severe. He never thought he'd have to use it, a fact he found bitterly ironic.

He blamed Mirabella for everything, taking the offensive to disarm her. "Give me the stones."

Mirabella could feel Maverick's newfound power, his presence now overwhelming. But she remained unfazed, her voice steady. "That's not happening."

With that, Mirabella raised her hand over the nearly closed portal. Under Maverick's watchful eyes, she let her fingers release the stones. Maverick's eyes widened as he lunged for the portal, hoping to catch the stones mid-air.

But his hand grasped only air, watching helplessly as the stones vanished into the abyss. Simultaneously, the portal sealed shut. The ground returned to normal, and the divided platform rejoined, the rumbling from beneath the earth fading into silence.

It was as if nothing had ever happened, yet the current state of the stone chamber made it clear that everything had just transpired.

Maverick surveyed the scene before him, his emotions suddenly spiraling out of control. He frantically tried to turn the mechanism in the center of the control panel again. But without the key, the mechanism was unresponsive. No amount of fiddling could bring it back to life.
