Chapter 120
Lucille tilted her chin up, smiling frostily. “See yourselves out.”
Where they went next mattered not at all to her.
Only Lucille and Mrs. Hopkins remained in the room.
Mrs. Hopkins looked miserable, her eyes red–rimmed as she wiped the corner of her eye. “Madam, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for being so impulsive. I forced you to agree to drop the
case.”
Lucille gave a faint smile. “It’s not on you. I never planned to keep pursuing them anyway. Honestly, I’m just… glad that even living like this, someone still stands firmly by my side.”
“But Madam, you almost got hurt!”
Mrs. Hopkins still felt suffocated with frustration.
“I’m fine, aren’t I?”
Lucille’s eyes glimmered. “But Mrs. Hopkins, you really should think about what comes next.”
“Madam?”
Mrs. Hopkins looked startled.
Lucille didn’t elaborate. Before truly leaving this household, she couldn’t let anyone know- except Grandma. Still, if Mrs. Hopkins ever had nowhere to go, she’d make sure she was taken care of.
As for dropping the case… well, we’ll see about that.
At Cedrick’s company, Maricela was packing up her things, ready to leave. She sat glumly at her desk, arms wrapped around a box.
Harlan sat beside her, offering comfort. “Don’t worry. We’ve got to trust Cedrick. If he agreed to those terms, he must have a backup plan.”
Maricela remained glum. What backup plan could matter? Not marrying Cedrick was already

the worst outcome. What good was any plan now?
Cedrick approached them just then. “Come on, let’s grab lunch together.”
Harlan pulled Cedrick aside, lowering his voice. “Cedrick, did you really agree to all those conditions? Including not marrying Maricela ?”
“Agreed.”
Cedrick said, “We can hire top lawyers to defend Maricela and minimize the liability, but it’s nearly impossible to leave no trace at all.”
Harlan was furious. “Maricela’s perfect. How can she have any stain on her life?
Besides fines, even detention’s unacceptable!
She couldn’t handle that hardship!”
“Exactly. Lucille’s three conditions aren’t hard. Anything money–related isn’t a problem.”
Cedrick had resolved a major issue and now looked completely relaxed.
“But you agreed to not marrying Maricela!”
Harlan glanced back at Maricela, finding her tear–streaked face utterly pitiful.
Cedrick smiled faintly. “I don’t plan to marry anyone again.”
What did that mean?
Harlan frowned, pondered, then understood. He rushed to whisper to Maricela, “Cedrick said even if he doesn’t marry you, he won’t marry anyone else. Why worry? You’re still the only one.”
Maricela’s worried expression didn’t ease.
Marriage meant security. Like today, Lucille could flaunt her marriage certificate and reclaim everything Cedrick gave away!
Without that certificate, where would her confidence come from?
Her future children would always be illegitimate!
“What else worries you?”

Harlan asked.
Maricela couldn’t voice her thoughts, muttering instead, “I left the company. What about my
income?”
“What’s there to fear? Can’t Cedrick support you?”
