Chapter 121
“What’s wrong? Why stare at Harlan? Did he upset you?”
Cedrick asked gently, smiling.
She instantly dropped her gaze, adopting a pitiful look. “No, I just feel guilty for causing you so much trouble.”
“How could that be?” Cedrick said tenderly. “We all adore you. How could you be trouble?”
“Let’s go! Celebrate our little princess Maricela’s safety!”
Harlan and David caught up, their vice president dignity completely gone. “Boss treating?”
“Sure.”
Cedrick couldn’t help but laugh.
When had it not been his treat?
He’d been the leader of their group since college, more like family than friends after all these years. Naturally, he always looked out for everyone.
The group headed toward their usual restaurant. Meanwhile, Lucille had originally planned to visit her grandmother, but decided to wait until this mess was sorted out. After her Acupuncture Therapy and rehabilitation session, she simply went home.
Cedrick didn’t return home until evening.
This time, Lucille was genuinely watching a show–the kind that required zero brainpower.
She realized the plot bore striking similarities to her own life. Even the supposedly brilliant, calculating male lead turned inexplicably blind around the female antagonist. Different paths, same destination.
Watching the male lead get played for a fool reminded her of Cedrick. A chuckle escaped her lips.
He walked in just as she laughed.

Naturally, she’d heard his footsteps too.
She expected sarcasm–after all, his precious Maricela must’ve had a rough day because of her. How could he let that slide?
Surprisingly, he didn’t.
Briefcase in hand, he loosened his tic. “What’s so funny?”
“Watching fools perform.”
You’re all fools!
He scoffed. “Seems you’re perfectly happy alone.
“Why shouldn’t I be?” Lucille set her tablet aside. “What–or who–deserves my misery?”
Cedrick dropped it. “I’m not fighting. Everything’s ready. Sign at the law firm tomorrow–it’ll be binding.”
He pulled a stack of papers from his briefcase, tossing them to her. “Review it. Add anything missing.”
Lucille scanned the document–the exact contract she’d demanded today. Typical CEO efficiency: crisp, clear language outlining her three terms without loopholes. She read it thrice, confirming no word games. Her obligation–dropping the lawsuit–was spelled out meticulously: case number, filing date, grounds. Every detail sealed shut against loopholes, yet no hidden traps.
Her prolonged scrutiny made Cedrick sit opposite her, rolling up his sleeves. “Still confused? Should I hire you a lawyer to vet it?”
“Great idea.” Lucille nodded. “I’ll hire my own tomorrow. No need to trouble you.”
He forced a smile. “Am I that untrustworthy? Have I ever screwed you over?”
“Ask your conscience.” She neatly filed both copies away.
Cedrick watched her, lips quirking. “My lawyer was stunned today. Said he’d never handled such a… unique case.”
Truthfully, he’d cringed through the consultation. His lawyer friend had laughed till his thighs hurt–Who notarizes this stuff?
