Freshly arrived at the hotel, Lucille spotted her aunt in the lobby.
Though they’d met few times, she recognized her instantly–her aunt bore a striking resemblance to Grandma. Sip- ping coffee, the aunt also immediately identified Lucille among the fellow Chinese visitors.
“Lucille!”
Her aunt enveloped her in a fierce hug. “Look how you’ve grown!”
Indeed, last they met, Lucille had been just a girl.
With no performance scheduled that evening, the group settled in while Lucille slipped away with her aunt.
Her aunt already knew about her leg injury, and seeing it firsthand made her heart ache.

As the two people Grandma cherished most, their first mission was video–calling her. Let Grandma see her favorite daughter and granddaughter together now.
Grandma beamed the moment she appeared on screen. Recognizing the faces on her phone, her surprise quickly melt- ed into delight. “Oh my! You two finally met?”
“Yep, Grandma. Auntie specially came to see me.”
Around Grandma and her aunt, Lucille felt that rare illusion–like she could finally be a kid again.
“Emily, take a good look at this girl!
Has she lost weight?
She always says ‘I’m fine,‘ but I know this little liar’s fibbing!” Grandma chuckled.

If you think she’s too skinny, just wait a month. Once she starts school here, come stay with us. We mothers will fatten her up together.”
Grandma laughed till her eyes crinkled. “You? Fatten her? Doubtful! If I come, I’ll end up raising two little piglets!”
Emily joined the laughter. “Mom, I’m decades old! Piglet this, piglet that–really?”
“What’s age got to do with it? You’ll always be my child!”
“Exactly! Even at eighty, Auntie will still be your treasure!” Lucille chimed in.
