Sierra’s eyes were glued to Halsey. She watched as Halsey opened her mouth and drank the chicken soup.
Halsey had drunk the poisoned soup!
A huge weight lifted off Sierra’s chest. She leaned against the wall, gasping for air, her eyes shining with triumph.
After all this struggle, she had finally defeated Halsey!
She glanced back at the hospital room. Halsey had finished the entire bowl of soup.
Forget a bowl–even a sip of the poisoned soup could be fatal. Sierra waited eagerly for the moment Halsey would succumb.
Zada took back the empty bowl. “Good job. You finished the soup. Now lie down and get some rest.”
Halsey nodded. “Okay.”
Suddenly, she clutched her stomach, her face going pale.
Zada’s expression shifted to concern. “What’s wrong?”
Halsey winced in pain. “My stomach…it hurts so much… Why does it hurt like this… It really hurts…”
Panic surged through Zada. “You don’t look so good. I’ll call a doctor. Doctor! Someone get a doctor!”
Almost immediately, a team of doctors and nurses rushed in, surrounding Halsey. “Don’t move. We’ll run some tests!”
But it was too late. Halsey coughed up a mouthful of blood.
The sight horrified the doctors. One of them shouted, “Get the patient to the operating room immediately! Move!”
The medical team lifted Halsey onto a stretcher and rushed her into surgery.
Zada ran after them, shouting Halsey’s name.
But a doctor blocked her way. “I’m sorry, you can’t go in.”
The operating room doors slammed shut with a heavy thud.
Outside, Sierra was ecstatic, but she had to keep up appearances. She rushed forward, feigning worry. “Zada, what’s going on? I just saw Halsey being taken into surgery. What happened? Is she okay? Tell me!”
Zada’s face went pale. “I–I don’t know! After drinking the soup, Halsey suddenly had severe stomach pain, and then she coughed up blood. The next thing I know, the doctors rushed her into surgery! What if something happens to her? Will she be okay?”
Sierra replied calmly, “Don’t panic. I think she’ll be fine. But we need to call Mr. Lane right now.”
Zada’s eyes widened as realization hit her. “Right… We have to tell Mr. Lane immediately. He needs to be here!”
She pulled out her phone. “I’ll call him right now.”
