Sierra wanted to see Shaun suffer.

Once Halsey was out of the picture, she had plenty of time to make Shaun hers. She was determined to become Mrs. Lane.

Zada’s face had drained of all color. “Sierra, what should we do? Halsey was fine, and now she’s suddenly in surgery! What the hell is going on?”

Sierra sneered inwardly. Zada was an idiot; hence why Sierra had picked her as the perfect scapegoat.

Sierra reached out and held Zada’s arm, putting on a comforting act. “Calm down. Halsey is going to be fine. We have to believe that.”

Zada nodded quickly. “You’re right. She and her baby will both be fine!”

Sierra continued smoothly, “As for what exactly happened, we’ll know once Mr. Lane gets here. He’ll figure it out.”

Zada slowly steadied her breathing, but just then, a familiar voice rang out.

“What happened to Halsey?”

Sierra turned and saw Shaun’s tall, composed figure coming toward them. He had arrived faster than she expected.

If Shaun came over so quickly when he heard that Halsey was in trouble, Sierra could already picture the pain on his face once he found out what really happened.

Zada rushed forward immediately. “Mr. Lane, you’re here!”

Shaun was visibly tense, his voice sharp. “Tell me what happened to Halsey.”

He glanced at the operating room doors. “Why is she in surgery?”

Zada stammered, “Sh–she was admitted today. I went home to make her some chicken soup, but right after she drank some, she suddenly clutched her stomach in pain. Then they rushed her into surgery.”

Shaun’s brows furrowed. “I’ll call the best doctors right now and have them flown in-”

Before he could finish, the operating room doors swung open. A doctor in a white coat stepped out, his expression grim.

Shaun and Zada hurried toward him.

Shaun’s voice trembled. “How is she doing?”

The doctor’s face was heavy with regret. “I’m sorry, Mr. Lane. We did everything we could.”

The words froze both Shaun and Zada in place. They gasped sharply, disbelief washing over them.

Shaun grabbed the doctor by the collar and shouted, “What do you mean, you did everything you could? Tell me!

The doctor swallowed hard. “I’m really sorry. We tried our best, but we couldn’t save her. Mrs. Lane, passed away.”

Zada’s eyes widened in shock. “That’s impossible! Halsey and the baby can’t just be gone like that! This can’t be

real!”
