“We don’t have much time before finals, so I’ve put together a pretty tight schedule,” Kayla said. “It goes all the way until midnight every night.”

She paused, scanning their faces. “I know it’s a lot. But this is our only shot. Can you guys commit to this?”

The room went quiet. Then the murmuring started.

A few people exchanged uncertain glances, shifting in their seats. “Midnight? So basically zero free time?” someone muttered.

“Yeah, I mean–Class A doesn’t even study that hard. Do we really need to push ourselves like this?”

“Isn’t midnight kind of extreme? Could we maybe dial it back a little?”

The resistance was immediate. None of them had ever studied that late before, and the idea alone made them. uncomfortable.

Kayla didn’t rush them. She waited until the murmuring died down before speaking again, her expression serious.

“Studying until midnight is actually the easiest option we have. I know it feels like we’re working harder than Class A, putting in more hours than they do. But that’s because we’re behind–way behind. We have more gaps to fill, more material to catch up on.

“Class A has been taking their classes seriously since freshman year. They do evening study sessions every single night. And what were we doing? We were messing around, wasting time. That’s how the gap between us got so huge.

“We racked up this debt, and now it’s time to pay it back.”

She paused, letting that sink in. “I know this feels overwhelming. But this might be our only shot in high school to prove ourselves–to prove we’re more than what people think we are.

“Are you really okay with giving up? Are you okay with apologizing to Class A, with admitting Ravenna was right about us? That we’re hopeless? That we’re trash?”

Her voice softened but lost none of its intensity. “If you don’t want to give up, then why not try? Yes, it’s going to be hard–but only for a little while.

“When finals come around, whether we do well or not, at least we’ll know we gave it everything we had. No regrets. But if we quit now? We’ll never know what we could’ve done. We’ll always wonder.”

She smiled, “And after this intensive push, things won’t stay this intense forever. We just need to make it to finals. Can’t we at least do that?”

Her classmates heard her words, and memories flashed through their minds–Ravenna and the Class A students sneering at them, looking down on them with pure contempt. The hesitation on their faces slowly faded.

The doubt, the fear, the resistance–all of it melted away, replaced by something harder.

One by one, their eyes lit up, like they’d spotted a single bearn of light cutting through the darkness.

A normally quiet classmate suddenly spoke up, “Kayla, do you really think we can make it if we work hard?”

Kayla pressed her lips together. Honestly, she didn’t know the answer.

But she knew one thing for sure–if they didn’t try, they’d definitely fail.

She looked at the faces in front of her. She couldn’t crush their hope right now. They needed this.

She gave a firm nod. “Absolutely. As long as we’re willing to put in the work, nothing’s impossible. Remember -opportunity goes to those who are ready for it.”
