Chapter 193
By then, even Kayla would have to watch Marianna’s every move, living by her good graces.
A flash of excitement lit Marianna’s eyes at the thought. But it dimmed just as quickly.

Tristian was at that age–marriage, kids, the whole package. Women were probably circling him like vultures, all of them hoping to climb into his bed and launch themselves into a different stratosphere.
She couldn’t give those slutty bitches a chance.
The problem was her background. No matter how much Tristian liked her, marrying into the Sexton family wouldn’t be that simple.
Unless she thought.
The door suddenly swung open.
“Marianna, you’re here!” The joy in Tristian’s voice cut through her scheming, pulling her back to the present
moment.
Tristian shot the servant a quick look. The servant bowed and disappeared.
In one smooth motion. Tristian pulled Marianna into the room and shut the door behind them.
She let him guide her to the couch, her eyes catching on his oversized bathrobe–like he’d just stepped out of the shower. The front hung open, revealing too much chest, with water droplets still clinging to his skin.
The weird part was the half–mask covering his face at this hour of the night.
Marianna didn’t get it. “Tristian? What’s with the getup
Is this how rich people have fun?” she thought.
Tristian smiled awkwardly. Kayla had beaten the crap out of him the other day, and the bruises on his face were still visible.
He couldn’t let Marianna see him looking this pathetic, so he threw on the mask.
But he sure as hell couldn’t tell her the embarrassing truth.
He smiled, “Just came from a masquerade ball. When I heard you were coming, I left early–thought I’d keep it on to show you. What do you think? Does it look good?”
He tugged at his loosely tied bathrobe, showing off what he clearly thought was an impressive physique.
Marianna felt a flutter of satisfaction. Tristian cared about her this much.
But her face showed nothing but apology. “It looks great. But did I mess up your plans? If I’d known, I would’ve come another day.”

He said, “Silly girl, what are you talking about? I can go to balls any day of the week. But I don’t get to see you every day. You came to me on your own–I’m thrilled. Everything else can wait.”
Marianna’s checks flushed pink in an instant. “Tris, you’re always teasing me.”
Watching her shy, delicate expression, something hot sparked to life in Tristian’s chest.
He reached out and touched her cheek. The skin was soft, warm under his fingertips. Marianna hesitated for just a second, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she tilted her face into his hand, her cheek brushing against his fingers.
