Chapter 16 

“Now move away from here or else we’re going to break your car!” Bob snarled, cracking his knuckles. 

The man he threatened clenched his jaw, ready to respond, but one of Bob’s boys tapped his shoulder urgently. 

“Look, Bob… it’s the girl. She’s out.” 

Bob turned his head, eyes narrowing as he spotted the students pouring out of the school gates. It was becoming crowded. 

“Tch. You’re one lucky bastard,” he spat, adjusting his belt and stepping away from the car. 

Among the sea of students was Julie, walking side by side with her classmates. She was tall, slender, and undeniably pretty. There was a hint of Jaden in her features–sharp eyes, confident posture. 

“Thanks, Julie, for helping me out on the exams,” Selena her classmate said with a grateful smile. “I wouldn’t have known what to write without you.” 

“It’s fine, Selena. That’s what friends are for, right? We help each other out,” Julie replied, brushing her damp hair behind her ear. They had just come from swim class. 

Selena’s smile faded instantly. Her hand grabbed Julie’s arm in fear. “Julie… look.” She pointed ahead. 

Julie’s heart sank. 

The same group of men from a week ago–those filthy thugs who had tried to grab her near the school gate–were back. Only this time, they weren’t hanging around. They were walking directly toward her. 

Julie’s breath caught. Last time, she was lucky. She escaped. But another student wasn’t so fortunate. The memory still haunted her. 

“Hurry!” Selena urged. “Let’s go report to a teacher before it’s too late!” 

They turned to run, but cruel laughter echoed from a corner. 

Amongst them was Fatima standing with a few other girls, arms folded smugly. “Looks like trouble magnet Julie is at it again. I don’t get what those creeps want from her. She’s not even that pretty.” 

Fatima was a class bully she personally has a grudge against Julie for being the smartest and every teacher’s favorite in the school. She hated her with passion and wouldn’t spare an opportunity to see her in trouble. 

“Right?” one of her followers chuckled. “Maybe she likes the attention.” 

Fatima sneered. “They should just take her already and give the rest of us peace. Only cheap goods attract street dogs!” 

Her words drew cruel laughter from others nearby, some filming the situation like it was some form of entertainment. 

The thugs moved in closer. 

“Hey little girl,” Bob called out mockingly. “We’re back. Where do you think you’re running to today, huh?” 

Suddenly, a figure stepped between Julie and the approaching thugs.
