Chapter 18 

“At least tell me what do you want with my daughter?” Marvin’s voice trembled, his fists clenched tight at his sides. 

Bob chuckled. “Old man Marvin, don’t play dumb. We’re here because Master Baron wants your little girl.” 

Marvin’s brows drew together. “What? What does he want with Julie?” 

“Are you deaf?” one of the thugs snapped. “He wants her in his bed tonight. So be smart and hand her over before this gets messy.” 

Marvin’s face drained of color. “Please, if this is about the protection f*e, I can pay right now–even if the month isn’t over.” 

He reached into the front pocket of his apron and pulled out a bundle of notes, his hands shaking as he held it out. 

Bob snatched the money. “Three grand? Not bad.” He gave it a casual count, then shoved it into his pocket. “But Master Baron didn’t send us here for your damn money.” 

Julie froze in place, her eyes wide, horror spreading across her face. 

“No, please,” Marvin pleaded. “She’s just a kid. She’s still in school—” 

SMACK! 

Bob’s slap came fast and hard, snapping Marvin’s head to the side and dropping him to the ground. 

“You should be grateful someone like Baron even noticed your daughter,” one of the other men sneered, pulling a small blade from his waistband. “He’ll take care of her better than you ever could. Now move aside before I gut you.” 

Julie let out a cry. “Don’t hurt my dad!” 

“Then come with us, sweetheart,” Bob said, grinning as he stepped toward her. “Make it easy.” 

Marvin groaned and pushed himself back up, blood trickling from his mouth. He faced them, eyes burning with fury. “You’re not taking my daughter. Over my dead body.” 

Bob scoffed. “You really want to die for this? You know who Baron is, right? The Gravesend Family? You can’t fight them.” 

“I don’t care if he’s the devil himself. No one lays a hand on my child.” 

“Get him,” Bob ordered. 

Two thugs grabbed Marvin by the arms and shoved him down to his knees.
