Sloane looked at Lucas curiously. His face was tight with restrained emotion, which only made her burst into laughter.
Lucas glanced down at her, helpless as he saw the amusement in her eyes. “What? You find it that funny when I’m the butt of the joke?”
Sloane blinked innocently. “It’s not like I asked to be your elder by seniority.”
Lucas raised a brow. “We’re engaged. That makes seniority irrelevant.”
But Sloane mumbled under her breath, “It’s not like we’re staying engaged forever anyway.”
Lucas froze. The easy smile on his face vanished completely.
Sloane, oblivious to the sudden shift in his mood, didn’t understand why he’d gone quiet again -they’d just been bantering a moment ago.

smart products market would skyrocket. We could gain market share almost instantly.”
Lucas remained silent for a moment, his eyes flashing sharply. “Peak Corp’s confidence comes from knowing we want their tech badly. But they’re forgetting–we still have options. Sure, those other companies may be technically inferior, but at least their terms are far more reasonable.”
Bennie nodded. “There are a few potential partners offering better terms, though their tech is far behind Peak’s.”
Sam then asked, “Are you suggesting we walk away from Peak Corp and look elsewhere?”
