“Coach, we have to celebrate tonight,” the team crowded around the head coach, chattering
non–stop.
“Celebrate? Of course we’re celebrating.” The coach glanced past the group at Lucas. “Lucas, you in for tonight?”
He knew Lucas usually avoided this kind of gathering. The invitation was mostly out of courtesy–he was fully expecting a no.
“Sure.” Lucas agreed–completely out of character.
The coach froze, clearly not expecting such an easy yes. He blinked, a little uncertain. “You… sure?”
Lucas gave a slight nod, his eyes falling on Sloane. “Yeah. Just let me know where.”
The moment the players heard Lucas was joining the celebration, the whole excitement.
The coach shot a look at Sloane and raised his brows knowingly.

Lucas and Sloane walked out of the building together, chatting and laughing–until a sudden commotion broke out. A crowd of fans was rushing toward them, notebooks and pens in hand, faces glowing with excitement and admiration.
“Sloane! Sloane! Can I get your autograph?”
“Sloane, you were amazing out there! Can I get a picture with you?”
“Sloane, I’m your biggest fan! Can you…”
The sudden onslaught startled Sloane. On instinct, she grabbed Lucas and ran.
Lucas let her drag him along, the corners of his mouth lifting into an uncontainable smile as he followed her lead.
They darted through the crowd and didn’t stop running until they were well outside the arena. Sloane finally halted, catching her breath as she turned to check behind them. Seeing no one had followed, she let out a long sigh of relief.
“That scared the crap out of me…” She patted her chest, still visibly shaken. “They were way too
intense…”

Lucas looked at her, clearly still a little rattled, and couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re Blackhawk’s star player now. Having fans is totally normal.”

Lucas thought. With her personality, her skill, and that face? Not liking her would be the weird part.
Sloane still didn’t seem used to it. She shook her head. “If they want to support me, they can come watch the matches.”
Lucas let out a soft laugh. He reached up and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, his fingertips brushing her skin with a faint, lingering warmth.
Sloane’s ear twitched instinctively. She looked up–only to lock eyes with him, eyes that were warm and gentle. They stood close–so close she could clearly see her own reflection in his gaze, as if, in that moment, the world had narrowed to just the two of them.
Lucas‘ gaze drifted slowly across her face–her curved brows, those bright, clear eyes. Her cheeks were still flushed from running, adding a soft glow to her features.
