As soon as Samson got the news, he rushed to the hospital to see Lucas. The moment he saw Lucas‘ injured hand, he grew visibly agitated. “That bastard Mason, if he weren’t already dead, I’d skin him alive myself.”

Jill had come specifically to check on Sloane. Seeing that she was unharmed, she still asked with concern, “Sloane, that Mason didn’t hurt you, did he?”

Sloane was arranging the flowers into a vase. At the question, she shot a quick glance at Lucas. “No.”

Looking at her, then at Samson, who was just as furious while cursing Mason, Sloane couldn’t help but think the two really were cut from the same cloth. Even the way they lost their tempers was identical.

“Alright, enough out of you. Lucas needs rest.” Benjamin had been listening to Samson rant for half an hour and finally stuffed an apple wedge into his mouth.

“Crunch, crunch, crunch!” Samson devoured the apple in just a few bites. Then he stood up and shot Benjamin a glare. “Whose side are you on, huh? Lucas is hurt this badly, and you won’t even let me curse that bastard properly?”

His tone turned accusing. “And you–you’re a doctor, aren’t you? After all these days, how is Lucas still not healed? What kind of surgery did you even perform?”

Benjamin shot him a calm sideways glance, his voice cool and unhurried. “Sloane did the surgery,”

Take it up with her if you dare.

“Sloane did the surgery?” Samson blinked and turned to look at Sloane. Then he looked at Lucas‘ face–and instantly chickened out. “Then I’m sure it’s fine.”

Jill couldn’t help but laugh, teasing, “Seriously, Uncle Samson? That quick to fold?”
