“Dr. Rivers, can you really cure us?” A young man’s eyes were red-rimmed, his voice cracking as he asked, trembling on the edge of tears.

One after another, the others crowded around, asking the same desperate question again and again, their one a mixture of fear and hope.

Sloane looked at their terrified faces. It felt like a heavy hammer had struck her chest, and the weight pressing down on her was almost unbearable. Still, she straightened her back, her gaze steady as she said, The toxin in your bodies is the one I identified. Right now, it’s still dormant. You’re safe. Please trust us and work with the treatment. Together, we’ll beat this virus.”

Her calm reassurance gradually settled the crowd. The patients no longer struggled to escape the floor that seemed to imprison them but was actually keeping them safe:

Meanwhile, when Lucas heard the news, he rushed to the hospital as fast as he could, his chest tight with inxiety. From the outside, the hospital looked calm, but he could see the military had already taken control.

He tried to force his way inside, only to be stopped cold by soldiers at the entrance.

With no other choice, he called Conor. More than an hour later, he finally received permission for a ten-

ninute visit.

Lucas followed the soldier up to the nineteenth floor.

‘Dr. Rivers will be here shortly,” the soldier said before stepping aside to wait.

Lucas could only stand there, staring through the cold glass door, his anxious gaze fixed on the hallway beyond. His chest tightened with every passing second.

When Sloane got Conor’s call saying Lucas was there, her heart jolted. She didn’t waste a moment. After quickly finishing her tasks, she hurried to meet him.

The moment Lucas saw her emerge in a protective suit, his eyes locked onto her. He pressed both palms against the glass as if it could bring him closer to her.

‘Sloane…” His voice was hoarse, nearly breaking from worry.

She saw his lips moving behind the glass and knew what he was trying to say. Pulling out her phone, she called him.

The sound of his ringtone made him grab his phone instantly.

‘Sloane, how are you?” His voice was thick with fear and aching tenderness. His gaze locked on the isolation ward, desperate to see for himself that she was unharmed.

Hearing Lucas’s voice brought her a sudden sense of peace, yet she couldn’t allow herself to dwell on it.

Through the visor of her protective mask, she saw his anxious face. Her voice softened. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
