“Ugh…” A strange sound rattled in Helen’s throat as she flailed desperately, unable to force out a single

word.

Sloane’s eyes narrowed; she quickly caught Helen’s wrist and felt her pulse. The beat was chaotic-clear signs of a binding curse taking hold.

Helen clutched her head in agony, then suddenly her eyes rolled back. Foam spilled from her lips as she collapsed, unconscious.

Sloane immediately reached for the needles in her medicine kit, ready to act, when the door burst open. Marshall strode in with the family doctor at his side.

“What happened here?” Marshall barked.

“Mom suddenly fainted.” Sloane calmly put the needle away. “She may have been frightened.”

The doctor rushed forward to examine her. Moments later, he shook his head. “Madam has had a stroke; she must be taken to the hospital at once.”

Marshall shot Sloane a suspicious look. “What were you talking about just now?”

“Mom came to have a heart-to-heart with me,” Sloane answered evenly. “Halfway through, this happened.”

As the servants scrambled to carry Helen away, Sloane bent down to pick up the photo, her gaze turning tc

ice.

Her fingers traced the image of the couple whose faces had been gouged out, but whose bodies remained intact; they had to be her real parents.

Her touch paused at the edge of the baby’s swaddling cloth-there, on the mother’s arm, a small butterfly- shaped birthmark was clearly visible.

The discovery set Sloane’s heart pounding. With this mark, maybe I can finally uncover who they really are.

She snapped a picture of the photo and sent it to Lucas, asking if he could enhance the birthmark.

Lucas replied quickly: “Leave this to me. Stay safe, follow Conor’s instructions and don’t take risks.”

Sloane tucked the photo close to her chest, unsettled and unable to calm down.

Just then, the butler arrived with a summons from Marshall.

“I’ve thought it over. I’ll agree to your terms,” Marshall said when she came down. “I’ll give you fifty percent of the company shares. In exchange, you’ll split the international medical project with us; Sammy must be involved from start to finish.”

Sloane’s lips curved faintly as her fingertips drummed the table. “Fine. But I want to see the transfer papers first.”

A sharp glint flashed in Marshall’s eyes; he immediately ordered the lawyer to bring in the documents that had long been prepared. Both signed and sealed, keeping up the façade of harmony.
