Chapter 388 No Leverage No Rescue
Lucas couldn’t care about anything else; his voice was hoarse as he shouted, “This is too dangerous, give me a boat, I’m going after her!”
“You have to trust her.” Conor pressed a steady hand on his shoulder. “This was her decision.”
Meanwhile, on the speedboat, Samantha was laughing hysterically. “Didn’t expect this, did you, Sloane? In the end, I’m the one who won!”
The boat tore across the pitch-black sea as Samantha steered with one hand and frantically dialed a satellite phone with the other.
At last, the call connected. A cold male voice answered, “Your plan failed. The boss has abandoned you.”
“Wait!” Samantha screamed, her voice breaking with hysteria. “I’ve captured Sloane! The miracle doctor- Sloane!”
The line fell silent for several seconds before the tone shifted sharply. “Stay where you are. Someone will come for you.”

The rough edge of the boat tore Sloane’s waist and abdomen raw; beneath her churned the dark, heaving waves. She struggled to turn her head. “If you kill me, you’ll lose your leverage.”
Her voice stayed calm. “Without me, they’ll never come for you.”
Samantha’s smile froze, then twisted into something even more unhinged. “Do you think you’ll be safe once they have you? That man hates you even more than I do; once you’re there, you’ll beg for death.”
An hour later, a black boat approached silently. Two men boarded and seized Sloane roughly.
Samantha scrambled after them. “Wait! Take me too-I’m one of you!”
By dawn, the vessel reached a hidden island. Its buildings were crumbling, and armed men with rifles patrolled everywhere.
They locked Sloane inside a dilapidated shack and never came back.
She leaned against the wall, gasping for breath; only after a long while did she slowly lift her hand to take
