Chapter 402 Guess Who’s Missing Now

“Miss, the master already made arrangements,” one of the disciples told Sloane. “She instructed us to take her back to Medicine Valley for recovery, so you can focus on finding your family without worry.”

Sloane’s eyes turned red as she gripped her master’s cold hand. “It’s all my

fault…”

“Silly girl.” Her master suddenly opened her eyes and gave a faint, weary smile. “Remember to keep practicing your medicine; and from now on… take good care of yourself.” She shifted her gaze to Lucas. “I’m leaving her in your hands.”

Lucas nodded solemnly. “You have my word.”

As the Medicine Valley car disappeared into the distance, Sloane’s tears finally spilled over. Lucas gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “She’ll be fine; don’t worry.”

Sloane looked up at him. “So where do we go now?”

“We don’t know enough about the Oliver Group,” Lucas said, keeping his arm around her. “If we show up out of nowhere claiming to be family, no one’s going to believe us.”

Sloane nodded in agreement. “You’re right. We need to find a local who can fill us in first.”

Though she was anxious, she knew she needed to stay calm.

Lucas brought Sloane to the bustling financial district of Mirevia. Inside a sleek, understated café, he dialed a number he hadn’t called in years.

“Jaime, it’s me,” Lucas said. “I’m in Mirevia. Thought we could catch up.”

A hearty laugh rang out from the other end. “Lucas? You’re actually calling me first? Alright, where are you?”

Half an hour later, a man in a tailored suit strode into the café. Jaime–Lucas’s old roommate from Dombovia University–was now a high–ranking executive at one of Mirevia’s top investment firms.

“Well, would you look at that? Is this really the Lucas I know?” Jaime’s eyes lit up when he saw Sloane. “And you brought such a gorgeous woman with you! When did you finally learn to live a little?”

Lucas shot him a look, slipping an arm around Sloane. “Sloane–my girlfriend.”

“Whoa, whoa!” Jaime lifted his hands dramatically. “The stone has bloomed!”

Sloane met his amused gaze with an easy smile. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Jaime.”

“No need to be so formal; just call me Jaime.” He sat down comfortably, all smiles. “So, what brings you to me?”

Lucas went straight to the point. “We want to ask you about the Oliver family.”

Jaime’s grin froze. “The Oliver family?” He glanced around warily. “Don’t tell me you’ve gotten yourselves tangled up with them?”

“It’s not what you think.” Lucas tapped his fingers lightly on the table. “We just want to meet Ms. Beth.”
