The Real Heiress Rules the World (Sloane Rivers) novel Chapter 404

Chapter 404 Drift or Die Trying

The four of them stumbled out of the cafe in chaos, the shouts of men in black echoing behind them. They barely managed to shove Shawn into the back seat before he lost consciousness completely.

Sloane checked his pulse, her face draining of color. It’s a neurotoxin!

She exchanged a look with Lucasno words needed. This had Jessica written all over it.

Jaime slammed his foot on the gas; the car shot into the night with a roar. In the rearview mirror, several blackclad figures burst out of the alley in pursuit.

Hospital?Jaime asked tensely.

There’s no time!Sloane tore open Shawn’s collar, revealing a small puncture mark already turning blue. Find a safe placeI have to neutralize the poison now!

Jaime swerved through traffic, tires screeching. Sloane pulled a small pouch of needles from her bag, dabbed a finger against the toxin on Shawn’s neck, and brought it to her nose. It’s a hybrid poison refined from South American poison dart frog secretions; if we don’t purge the venom within three hours, he won’t make it.

Jaime floored the accelerator, the steering wheel responding like an extension of his will. Hold on!he shouted.

The car shot into a narrow alley barely wide enough for one vehicle. In the mirror, two black SUVS followed close behind like bloodthirsty hounds, their headlights slicing through the darkness.

Turn right up ahead!Lucas barked.

Jaime’s mouth curled into a wild grin. His right hand yanked the handbrake while his left spun the wheel hard. The tires screamed, rubber burning against asphalt; the car drifted perfectly into the side street, rear bumper grazing the wall and throwing off a shower of sparks. Sloane clutched the unconscious Shawn tightly, three gleaming needles already pinched between her fingers.

A deafening gunshot exploded behind them. The rear window shattered instantly, shards of glass raining down like icy rain. Lucas dove over Sloane, using his back as a shield. Razor- edged fragments tore through his shirt, leaving shallow cuts across his skin.

Are you okay?he asked, voice tight.

Sloane lifted her head in his arms. I’m fine. What about youare you hurt?

Lucas held her close, unflinching. I’m fine.

God damn it!Jaime swore, twisting the wheel sharply. The car roared into an underground parking lot, tires skidding across the slick floor as the vehicle slid sideways into a parking

space.

Hold on!A flash of ruthless determination crossed Jaime’s eyes. He slammed the gearshift into reverse and floored the gas. The car rocketed backward like a cannonball, barely scraping past the first pursuing SUV. Caught off guard, the SUV crashed headlong into a support pillar; its hood crumpled with a metallic crunch.
