Chapter 406 Guess Who’s Wanted Now

Sloane’s face flushed all the way to her ears; she gave Lucas a gentle push. “Stop it. I’m going to check on Shawn.”

As she left, Jaime leaned closer to Lucas, his voice teasing. “I’m serious–Sloane’s medical skills are top–tier. Ever think about developing her career in Mirevia? I could invest!”

Lucas let out a cold snort. “Don’t even think about it. My Sloane’s gift is for saving lives, not making you money.”

“Come on, you’re really not going to consider it? This is a guaranteed profit,” Jaime pressed, unwilling to give up.

Lucas, annoyed by his chatter, shoved him toward the door. “We’re going to rest. If you’re not tired, go find out what’s happening outside.”

“How am I not tired?” Jaime protested loudly from the hall. “I just risked my life driving!” But the only answer he got was the sound of Lucas slamming the door shut.

“Heartless,” Jaime muttered, rolling his eyes before heading next door to rest.

The next morning, Sloane was still asleep when the pounding on the door jolted her awake.

“Lucas! Something’s happened!”

Lucas yanked the door open to find Jaime pale–faced and holding up his phone. “Big trouble— we’re wanted! The three of us are on the city’s most–wanted list!”

On the screen was a breaking news broadcast: “Oliver Group’s second son was kidnapped last night. Police have identified three suspects…”

The image shown was a surveillance shot of the three of them helping Shawn out of the cafe.

Lucas’s eyes hardened. “They’re framing us–to take us all down at once.”

Hearing that, Sloane rushed over, and when she saw the report, her expression darkened. “What do we do now? Shawn still hasn’t woken up!”

There was no one who could testify for them; whoever set this up clearly planned everything -Shawn was never meant to live and clear their names.

Sloane frowned deeply. “The poison’s gone, but his body’s badly damaged. He’ll be unconscious for a while.”

Just then, the wail of sirens grew louder from the distance. Jaime darted to the window and yanked the curtains shut. “The police are searching door to door!”

Lucas made a quick decision. “We split up. Jaime, you draw their attention.”

“Me again?” Jaime’s eyes widened, but after a beat, he nodded in resignation. “Fine, fine. Guess it’s only fair–the handsomest one gets the hardest job.”

“Sloane, we’ll take Shawn through the back door,” Lucas said as he packed their essentials. “We’ll contact you once we find somewhere safe.”

Realization hit Jaime, and he shouted after them, “Hey, wait–you’re not planning to ditch me, are you?”

“How could we?” Lucas patted his shoulder with a grin. “You’re too good–looking to leave behind.”
