It wasn’t even a big injury, really. The teacher had rushed Samantha to the hospital in time, and the doctor said it’d heal after a few days of rest.
Samantha didn’t take it seriously. What did bother her a little, though, was hearing that the Durand family had gone bankrupt.
“Shane’s gone off the deep end,” Summer added. “He kept yelling something about snakes, just totally losing it. His family already had him committed.”
“Enough about him.” The mention of a psychiatric hospital made Samantha uneasy. She didn’t want anyone being reminded of Boone–and definitely didn’t want to give people something to laugh about.
Summer didn’t press it and smoothly shifted the topic. Her cheeks flushed pink. “Sammy… your brother–how’s he doing?”
“I mean, I haven’t seen him around lately. Hasn’t come looking for you…”
Samantha immediately saw through her, but she didn’t mind at all.
She let out a heavy sigh. “He’s been swamped lately. Our company’s going through a rough patch, and it’s all falling on his shoulders.”
Summer’s expression changed. Alarmed, she leaned in. “Wait–what? Is it serious? What happened?”
Samantha looked torn, hesitated for a moment, then gently shook her head. “It’s kind of complicated. Business stuff. I don’t really understand the details myself. But seeing how stressed he is every day–it’s hard not to worry.”
Summer’s brows furrowed with concern. “Is there anything I can do? Do you need help?”
Samantha gave her hand a light pat and forced a soft smile. “I really appreciate that. I do. But this isn’t something outsiders can really help with. Adrian and the others just have to figure it out themselves. I just hope they get through it.”
Then, as if she’d just remembered something, she added, “But if you really care about him, talk to him more. Keep him company. He’s under a lot of pressure. If you’re there for him, it might help.”
“Me?” Summer’s face turned crimson. “What could I possibly do?”

Samantha grinned, a teasing gleam in her eyes. “Maybe not anyone else. But you? If you went to cheer him up, Adrian would definitely be happy.”
Summer still looked flustered, so Samantha kept pushing. “I’ll let you in on a little secret—I saw the scarf you gave him. It’s hanging right in the center of his closet. Dead center. The maids aren’t even allowed to touch it.”
Summer covered her burning face with both hands. Her voice quivered with disbelief. “Really? I thought he only accepted it out of politeness… I didn’t think…” Her eyes lit up with a mix of joy and shyness. She looked dazed with happiness.
Samantha struck while the iron was hot. She tugged on Summer’s hand. “So go tonight. Surprise him. I’ll give you the name of the hotel he’s staying at. By the time he gets back, you’ll be there waiting for him—maybe share a nice dinner, help him unwind a bit.”
Summer was overwhelmed–nervous, but excited. “I… okay. Thank you.”
Meanwhile, Sloane had just finished a round of acupuncture on Lucas when she got word that Summer had left campus all dressed up.
