The Rogue is a Female Alpha novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Zephynne

“can’t believe this is even happening. A king in the house? Zephyr, this is history. How did you even ask him to come in How did you

“Dessen” I cut in, my voice low. She froze mid–babble, shuddering to a halt, her fingers trembling from excitement.

We were in the kitchen, heat and smoke wrapping around us, the air thick with the mingled scents of roasting meat, fresh bread, and crushed herbs.

The moment Dessyn had seen Lycannar, she’d gone pale and nearly passed out. Now, with the two of us trying to finish the meal, she still couldn’t wrap her head around it.

I watched her breathing hard and raised a brow.

“Do you have a crush on him or something?”

She giggled, shaking her head.

“Who would dare? He’s the Lycan King. And you’re the goddess of war. I’d be insane to drag a man with you.”

Ar that, I turned slightly away, pretending to check the stew but something inside me tightened.

Why did it feel so certain I’d hate any woman near Lycannar now?

The thought alone made the mark on my back warm, then burn. The runes of the Lycan King’s claim expanded across my skin, hot and alive.

My head dipped as I let it happen, eyes fluttering shut until suddenly I blinked open to see Dessyn’s lips moving.

I couldn’t hear her for several seconds. Then her brows furrowed.

“My goodness. Zephyr, you’re pale.” She touched my arm. guiding me toward a wooden chair.

Ist my breath uneven. Weakness seeped into me, heavy and slow.

“Zephyr?”

I didn’t answer. My focus tunneled inward, tracing the source of the drain. Then it hit me. Nyroth’s mate bond clashing violently against Lycannar’s. My pulse spiked, sweat sliding down my temple.

“Water.” I muttered.

Dessyn hesitated.

“I’ll call the King

My hand shot out, gripping her wrist. “Leave him out of this. Just bring me the water.”

Tomorrow night, I would reject Nyroth and this nightmare would end. I only had to last one more day.

Dinner was simple. When I set Lycannar’s plate before him, he didn’t look at the food, only at me. His gaze followed as 1 sat across from him.

I’d survived the clash this time, but the next might tear me apart. I dropped my gaze to my plate just as Moon poured me

“You look pale. Are you alright?” he asked.

“I’m fine, I lied.

Chapter 32

Dessyn, seated beside her father, saw through it but said nothing.

The Dusk household’s attention shified to the King, Nathan cleared his throat.

“You should.. go on. Your Majesty.”

Lycannar frowned faintly, then lifted his spoon and tasted the soup. I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until he swallowed.

“Thanks for the meal,” he murmured, then took another spoonful.

1 placed a piece of meat into his spoon. He studied it for a heartbeat before accepting it.

Silence fell for some minutes as we all enjoy our dinner. When Moon finally spoke again, it was deliberate.

“So, you won’t be around tomorrow night, will you, Zephyr?”

The room went stilled. Everyone pause except Lycannar, who kept eating.

After dinner, he thanked the Dusks and stepped out to his horse. The animal stood exactly where we’d left it an hour ago.

“Answer me.” He stepped forward, eyes burning into mine. “Your mate. Do you feel something for him?

My breath faltered. One wrong word, and he’d summon Chantel to do the work.

“If he tries to stand as my rival… I will end him.”

You know I will

did. Gods help me, I believed him,

He turned toward his horse and I suddenly get mad.

15o you’re leaving just because I told you not to be a murderer?”

He paused, looking back at me. His voice dropped, silk over steel.

“A murderer? I’m trying to give you what you want. Make it easy. If he doesn’t release you, we rip him out of the way. The simplest method there is”

My chest sank. He said it as if it were kindness.

“Don’t look at me like that,” he murmured suddenly.

“Like what?”

“Like the world used to.” He closed the space between us in three steps, his hand sliding to my waist, the other tipping my chin up. His breath brushed my lips, his eyes dark, bottomless. “Don’t look at me like I’m a monster. Don’t. I’ll lose it if you

I swallowed hard, my heart thrumming under his touch. His fingers lingered at my jaw, pressing, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to warn.

“Because if I lose it, Zephyrine,” he whispered, leaning close until his mouth nearly grazed mine, “I won’t just kill your mate. I’ll burn down every damn thing that ever kept you from me.”

His lips ghosted mine in a fleeting, claiming kiss, and then he was on his horse, riding into the night, leaving my pulse wrecked and my thoughts in ruin.
