“Yves, are you worried about me, or about the bodyguards you assigned to watch over me? Not to mention, there’s a doctor traveling with us. Stop fussing—I’ll be fine.” His meaning was clear: he had no intention of coming back.
Yves frowned, knowing his father’s temperament all too well. Stubbornness clearly ran in the family—if the old man had finally managed to get out for some fresh air, there was no way he’d willingly agree to return so soon.
Unless, of course, Yves forced his people to drag him back.
“Alright, then. Just promise me you won’t go to Whiterun tomorrow. Stay in Aquora and watch Leif’s training instead.”
Aquora might have its share of dangerous characters, but the folks over in Solara were far scarier than any terrorist.
At least in Aquora, Leif could keep an eye on him.
Mr. Quigley burst out laughing, his wrinkled face folding into kind, gentle creases.
Lindsay shot Yves a questioning look, clearly puzzled. Why was he suddenly agreeing to let Mr. Quigley stay in Aquora? She’d been sure Yves would pull rank and force his father to come home.
After ending the video call, Yves offered an explanation. “He’s as stubborn as a mule. If I push too hard, he’ll probably just pack his bags and take off. Then it’ll be even harder to track him down.”
Lindsay’s eyes widened in understanding. Of course—Mr. Quigley had pulled the old “runaway” stunt more than once.
It’s true what they say: as people get older, they turn back into children. That certainly seemed to be the case now.
“I’m planning to have my people bring him back in a few days anyway. There’s no reasoning with him right now, so we’ll have to use more... creative methods.” Yves narrowed his eyes, already calculating. The flight from Aquora to Skyrim was about thirteen hours—just long enough for a good nap.
“Creative? Like what, knocking him out and hauling him onto the plane?” Lindsay arched an eyebrow, only half-joking.
Yves twitched his lips into a reluctant smile. “No need for anything that extreme. I’ll just have someone slip him a sleeping pill. He’ll wake up and—voilà—he’s home.”
