The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 15

This question was like a trap; no matter how Lester answered, he’d come off as disrespectful to his elders.

Funny thing was, it was a taste of his own medicine, considering the way he’d just interrogated Lindsay.

Only now did Lester realize he’d dug himself into this pit.

He gazed at Lindsay, his expression dark and conflicted, as if he couldn’t decide whether he was sizing her up or trying to get a read on her. The Lindsay he used to know had never been so quick-witted—she’d always been quiet and reserved.

What Lester didn’t know was that Lindsay hadn’t been naturally withdrawn; she’d simply learned not to speak up when she was living under someone else’s roof.

But that was before. She had a second chance now, and she wasn’t going to let herself be silenced.

“Horace, please show our guest out,” Lindsay said, not bothering to argue further with Lester. She turned and headed back to her bedroom.

Lester made a move to follow, but Horace stepped in his path. “Looking for another fight?”

Lester jabbed a finger at Horace. “You’ve got guts. One day, you’ll see who really runs the Quigley family.”

With that threat hanging in the air, he finally stormed out.

——

The next day.

Lindsay didn’t wake until the afternoon. Her body was awake, but her mind was still foggy, as if she hadn’t slept nearly enough.

There was a brisk knock at the door—“Ms. Nelson?” Horace’s voice called from outside.

She hauled herself out of bed, yawning behind her hand, feeling heavy and sluggish. “Horace, is something up?”

“Aren’t you hungry, Ms. Nelson?” Horace’s question made her frown in confusion.

“Not really. It’s still morning, isn’t it?” She usually woke up around ten.

Horace paused before answering, “You’re really good at skipping meals. It’s past two in the afternoon.”
