The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 156

Naomi tiptoed toward the exit, but hadn’t made it to the door before Lindsay’s voice rang out, loud and clear. “Hey, Naomi—where do you think you’re going?”

Naomi froze mid-step. A chill shot up from her toes to her chest. She spun around and shot Lindsay a furious glare—this was definitely on purpose.

The commotion caught the attention of the elegant woman across the room. Her eyes narrowed as she gave Naomi a quick once-over. Hadn’t she seen this woman in the restroom earlier?

She strode over, her heels clicking sharply, and demanded in a cold voice, “Why are you running off? Got something to hide?”

Naomi squared her shoulders and retorted, “Ma’am, I have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s the end of the workday—going home now is completely normal, isn’t it?”

The woman cut right through her defense. “Everyone else clocked out ages ago. You stuck around just to watch the drama, didn’t you? Now, suddenly, you’re in a hurry to leave? Seems suspicious to me.”

Naomi snorted. “I don’t know who you are or what your problem is, but you’re the one making a scene in the Design Department. I’m just trying to leave work—I don’t have time for this.” With that, she strode to the time clock, pressed her finger to the scanner, and signed out.

She’d barely breathed a sigh of relief when the elevator doors slid open. Out stepped a middle-aged man in a sharp suit, flanked by several intimidating bodyguards.

The elegant woman’s confidence soared the instant she saw him. She all but threw herself into his arms, her voice turning soft and plaintive. “Honey, someone poured water all over me! I spent ages getting ready for our dinner tonight, and now look at me—I’m a mess!”

Even with age, she had the art of playing the victim down to perfection, and somehow she managed not to make it seem the least bit ridiculous.

The man’s face darkened. “Who dares mess with my wife in my building?” he barked. “Where’s your manager? I want answers.”

Naomi was rooted to the spot, her feet refusing to move.

The woman clung to her husband and pointed straight at Naomi. “She’s the most suspicious one—she was just about to run off.”
