The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 29

“Why do you care what I do?” Leif shot back at Lindsay with a cold sneer. “Just because you married Yves, don’t kid yourself into thinking you’re part of this family. To me, you’re not even worth the dirt under my shoes.”

To marry a man in a coma just for money and status—what a world. As long as you’ve got cash, nothing else matters.

Lindsay’s expression remained calm. “Just asking out of courtesy. Watch your own back.”

Leif scoffed, his eyes still icy. “You should worry about yourself. Right now, you’re the Quigley’ favorite scapegoat. Still dreaming of having Yves' child to fight for the inheritance? Honestly, Lindsay, your greed is pathetic.”

Lindsay didn’t rise to the bait. What others thought of her was their own business, not hers.

“If you’re headed to Aquora to practice for the race in a few months, let me give you a word of advice: make sure you check your car before the competition. Take it or leave it.”

In her previous life, Leif had died in a car crash during a race. But it hadn’t been an accident—someone had tampered with his vehicle. Yves had uncovered the truth after Leif’s death.

“Are you cursing me?” Leif’s face darkened at Lindsay’s words, his voice frosty.

“If that’s how you want to see it, so be it.” Lindsay shrugged, exasperated. She’d only warned him for the sake of their childhood friendship—they’d grown up together.

Things hadn’t always been this bad between them. But ever since the incident three years ago, Leif had treated her like a criminal.

“If anything happens to my car, it’ll be because of you,” Leif snapped. His grudge ran deep; ever since that day three years ago, he saw ulterior motives in everything Lindsay said.

Lindsay could only sigh and say nothing more. She turned and headed upstairs.

Everyone has their own fate. If death comes for you at midnight, no one can save you until dawn.

Two weeks slipped by. Yves' condition was slowly improving; he opened his eyes more often now. Though his gaze was still vacant, there was finally some life behind those eyes.

Lindsay kept up her routine, brewing his medicine just as before—boiling it down from a large pot to a single cup, so the dose was strong enough to work.
