He rattled off an order for six or seven dishes in quick succession–slow–cooked pork roast, pulled pork with peppers and onions, fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy fried chicken bites, and buttered mixed vegetables–each name making Barrett and the others widen their eyes in disbelief.

This was the apocalypse.

“Elias, that’s enough,” Barrett blurted, alarmed. “That’s going to cost a fortune!”

Even here at the night market, plenty of people were eating, but none were ordering this much food–except Elias. And from the looks of it, this would be expensive.

“Don’t worry. Blazing Sun Camp is well–off,” Elias said with a smile. “Even in Blazing Sun Alliance, we’re the richest of them all.”

The group glanced at him.

“You’re lucky to have ended up in our leader’s camp. Blazing Sun Camp has the best pay and benefits in the entire Alliance. Our leader is the richest person here, which makes us the richest camp too. Out of all fifty–eight camps in the Alliance, even if you combined the other fifty–seven, they still wouldn’t come close to us.”

The group just stared at him, stunned.

Someone finally asked, “So, our camp leader is also…”

“Yes, she’s also the Alliance leader,” Elias replied, his face lighting with pure admiration. “She’s the most remarkable person I’ve ever met.”

The peace and prosperity he had dreamed of from before the apocalypse had been brought back to life by Theresa, who had carved out a pure, safe haven for everyone in a world of chaos and danger.

To him, Theresa was nothing short of a deity.

“Yes,” Barrett said, his eyes shining. “This is the place we’ve been searching for.”

“Go ahead, eat,” Elias told them warmly.

They picked up their forks with trembling hands. The first bite of rich, savory food felt like something out of a dream.

Barrett was floored. He had made the right choice–absolutely the right choice.

Heidi and Reece, though they’d already tasted Theresa’s meal once before, still found themselves moved and astonished. They only wished their other classmates could be here too. If Nixon saw what Theresa could do, he’d be completely won

over.

They ate like refugees who hadn’t seen a proper meal in ages, devouring the food as if it might vanish any moment.

Theresa handed the Level–4 zombie’s head to Tania.

The virus research lab had been fitted with an extremely secure containment chamber for zombies.

All the materials had been acquired through the system’s exchanges.

There was no need to worry about a Level–4 zombie causing any damage to the

lab.

“This is incredible!” she exclaimed, grinning at her precious dogs,
