Chapter 574 The Newcomers
Steven and his crew were busy buttering up Theresa.
Theresa remained silent.
Outside, the rain poured harder, showing no sign of letting up.
Theresa wasn’t the least bit concerned.

They were scheduled to stay here three days–yesterday, today, and then head to the financial tower by noon tomorrow. At this pace, everything was on track.
She remained calm, but Patrick’s group was far from it.
They had gone hungry for an entire day. Yesterday, they barely survived on a scrap of canned meat, and now they were stuck again with nothing to eat.
Wandering outside might at least give them a chance to scavenge, but trapped here, they would starve.
Divine Academy had armed them with guns–each loaded with a single bullet–but not a single bite of food.
Three days in a city overrun with zombies, and survival meant finding their own meals.
Theresa handed out food to everyone–instant noodles, as usual.
Her supply was massive; she had everything stocked. Just from their camp’s boxed lunches, she had hoarded over a hundred. But she wasn’t about to flaunt them, and certainly not share.
These outsiders weren’t her people. Giving them even the bare minimum was already more generosity than they deserved.
Across the room, Patrick watched Theresa’s crew slurp noodles, his eyes glowing with envy.
The smell was unbearable. He couldn’t sit still any longer.
“We’re all trapped here together, like insects on the same thread. We live or die as one. You can’t just enjoy all the food yourself!”
Theresa heard him but didn’t even look up.
When she didn’t react, Patrick rose and stalked toward her group.
The moment he reached the cabinet she had claimed, a blade flashed.
Steel glinted coldly in the dim light, and Patrick froze.
He locked eyes on Theresa, who stirred her noodles as calmly as ever, his chest tight with unease.
He kept his guard up around Theresa; even now, he had no clue what her real abilities were.

The only proof of her skill was that knife–how she’d drawn it in a blur and killed one of his teammates instantly. Beyond that, she and her crew had stayed quiet.
But the aura she radiated was enough to keep him at bay.
Yet still, he wanted the food!
Patrick’s gaze lingered on her, but eventually he swallowed his anger and stepped back.
He returned to his group and scanned the room, his eyes landing on Hannah.
“You. Come here.”
Hannah shivered, then rose and followed him toward the entryway.
“What’s your connection to them?”
“We used to be in the same dorm,” she answered truthfully.
“What kind of abilities do they have? Any trump cards?”
“Steven and Caleb are speed–based ability users. Brandon, Tyler, and Lilian are strength–based ability users,” Hannah explained. “That guy with the eye patch–I don’t know him. I don’t know what his connection to them is.”
“Forget him. What about the woman? What’s her trump cards?”
“She…” Hannah hesitated, then said something that made Patrick stiffen. “She has a lot of abilities.”
“A lot? How many?”
Before she could answer, gunfire cracked outside.
Last night, they had heard distant shots too, always followed by cheers somewhere else.
But this time-
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunfire was getting closer.
Theresa moved to the window, cracked it open, and peered out. She saw a massive crowd sprinting, a horde of zombies in pursuit.
