Chapter 309 The Bet

It turned out that the System’s ability to sway people wasn’t as strong as it seemed. Otherwise, the voices online criticizing Erin wouldn’t have grown louder and louder.
With things blowing up this badly, Tracy didn’t need much imagination to guess that the Jackmans would come after her in Erin’s defense. So, she blocked every way they might try to
reach her.
By staying out of sight, she made sure Andrew’s focus stayed on her–and let Ronald quietly handle the cleanup in the background.
But Tracy wasn’t sitting idle.
When she wasn’t painting to keep her account active, she was meeting with Miranda.
Miranda had agreed to return home because years had passed, and she’d finally let go of some of her bitterness.
More importantly, during their collaboration, she noticed something off in Tracy’s project.
Trusting Tracy, she didn’t tell anyone else but came straight to her with questions.
Tracy hadn’t expected Miranda’s business instincts to be that sharp. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to reveal her plans against the Jackmans.
Of course, she wasn’t about to drag Miranda down with her. She made sure the deal guaranteed Miranda would come out ahead.
Miranda already knew a bit about what Tracy had been through, and that was another reason she chose to return.
She hated the Jackmans, too. So when Tracy said she hated them, Miranda could understand.
Still, knowing Tracy’s personality, Miranda assumed she’d only want to break things off and walk away.
The fact that she was actively targeting them only meant her suffering had been far worse than Miranda imagined.
“Tracy … What really happened to you?” Miranda asked softly, her voice tinged with pain.
Tracy, of course, couldn’t talk about what had happened at the academy. But she could feel Miranda’s genuine concern.

After a pause, she finally said, “The truth is … I’m the Jackmans‘ real daughter.”
Miranda froze, unable to react for a long while.
She opened her mouth several times but only managed a long sigh.
Deep down, she had always known the Jackmans would regret their choices one day.
As Miranda searched for the right words to comfort her, the door to the private room suddenly flew open.

Andrew stormed in, his face twisted with rage, all his usual composure and pride gone. “Tracy! How long do you think you can keep hiding—”
His words cut off as his eyes locked on Miranda. “M–Miranda?”
Miranda’s expression instantly went cold.
Andrew, oblivious, lit up with joy and rushed toward her like he’d just found something priceless he thought he’d lost forever.
“Miranda, you’re alive! You’re really alive! This is incredible, I …

But before he could reach her, Miranda’s assistant blocked his path. “Mr. Jackman, please respect yourself.”
Only then did Andrew snap out of his excitement that his wife was alive.
He looked between Miranda and Tracy, slowly piecing it together.
He let out a long sigh. “Miranda, do you know how wrecked I was when I heard what happened to you? I was so grateful you were safe … I know you’re always fond of Tracy, but you shouldn’t team up with her to spread these lies. You’ve misled us for years, and now you’ve really gone too far.”
Miranda, who had been ready to leave, was so taken aback by his arrogance that she actually laughed.
“Andrew, I’ve wanted to say this for a long time–you are so full of yourself.”
She used to see him through the rosy lens of love, believing he was smart, decisive, and
reliable.
But now that the lens was shattered, she finally see him for what he was: nothing more than a pompous fool.
