Benjamin let out a heavy sigh. "Tracy, if you're still upset, then I'll apologize. I'm sorry. From now on, we'll make it up to you. Come home with me, okay?"
He spoke like a father trying to coax a rebellious daughter home.
But watching him put on this act of kindness and forgiveness only made Tracy feel sick.
If Erin hadn't been exposed and lost all value, and if her grandfather hadn't left her the company shares, would her family have ever cared whether she was truly one of them?
No. They wouldn't.
All they ever cared about was protecting their own interests and proving themselves right.
Deep down, they were selfish and fake.
Tracy's eyes were cold as she stared at Benjamin. Her voice was sharp and steady. "If you're trying to play the emotional card and get me back as your obedient daughter, then you'd better give that up. "Because even if all of you dropped dead tomorrow, I still wouldn't forgive you."
It was the first time she had ever spoken her hatred so openly. Benjamin stood frozen, stunned silent.
"Y-You ... " he stammered, unable to form the words.
Tracy wasn't done. "Honestly, if it weren't for the twenty percent Grandpa left me, I wouldn't bother taking the company from your hands—I would've destroyed it completely.
"It was only because Erin had all of you behind her that she dared to act so ruthlessly, pushing me to the edge over and over, even costing Walter and Grandpa their lives.
"So tell me, how could you possibly think I'd ever forgive you for that?"
Benjamin's eyes widened.
He knew Tracy resented them but never imagined the hatred ran this deep.
They were blood, family. No matter the mistakes, wasn't there always a way to make things right while they were still alive?
He felt anger, helplessness, and heartbreak all at once. His lips parted several times, but in the end, all he could do was sigh heavily.
"I know you're angry. If putting the company in your hands will calm you down, then I'm willing to step aside."
His tone softened, sounding somewhat fatherly. "I'm getting old. Andrew's missing, and Liam doesn't have the talent for business. You're family. Handing the company over to you makes me feel at ease."
Tracy smirked, cutting straight through his hidden agenda. "I'm still a Jackman, so it's fine if the company's under my control for now. Once you win me over and Andrew returns, I'll just hand it back—right?"
Benjamin's flickering gaze said it all. He didn't need to answer; the truth was obvious.
Tracy felt nothing at this.
