All through the night, Belladonna stayed glued to me, even in her sleep.

She had refused to go back to her room and clung to me like a koala. I had no choice but to go to bed with her, and she slept with her arms tight around my middle, her face pressed into my chest.

I couldn’t sleep. I stared up at the ceiling, my thoughts wandering. The look in her eyes when she burst into my room–that look of utter fear, like she was stuck in a nightmare, the tears that streamed down her face left an imprint in my head.

And I’m ashamed to say this… but she looked so beautiful at that moment. With her eyes wide in fear, and the tears streaming down and leaving marks on her beautiful face, her hair wild and long. She was even more beautiful and it was a struggle for me to take my eyes off her.

A real struggle.

I looked down at her now that she was deeply asleep. Her lips were slightly parted, the tears she shed had left a trail on her face and her

eyes were swollen.

“What happened?” I asked softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and exposing her face even more so I could gawk all I wanted. I never really looked at her well when she was asleep, because it felt like I was giving her too much attention. It felt like she could see all the emotions in my face and know I was losing my shit.

I was scared of letting that happen. Will she make fun of me? Will she taunt and tease me? I was sensitive- though I would never admit that to anybody–so if she were to make fun of me after seeing my emotions, after seeing me bare, I wasn’t sure if I could take it.

“I’m scared, Belladonna,” I whisper, tracing her lips with my thumb. “I don’t know what’s happening to me. I lose my shit as soon as I catch a wisp of your scent. It’s driving me fucking crazy. I don’t know who I am once your scent fills my head and all I can think of is you. I don’t know who takes over then. But it scared me, and thrills me as well. Because I’ve never felt like this before. It’s not the same with my first lover and it’s not the same with Rosette. What do I do now, Belladonna? You should give me an answer since it’s because of you that I’m in this state.”

But all she did was sigh, not giving me an answer and she just rubbed her face on my chest, a knot tightening on my chest.

“Fuck,” I cursed softly, drawing her deeper into my arms, tightening my hold on her. “Fuck, this is a mess.”

I ended up falling asleep with my nose buried deep in Belladonna’s hair, her soft, steady breaths were what steadied my racing heartbeat and that was when I managed to fall asleep.

But right now I felt eyes on me, hot and intense. I didn’t want to open my eyes when I had just closed them but the gaze was so hot that I had to.

I finally managed to peel my eyes open and they met black eyes.

“Hi,” Belladonna said softly.

“Hey,” I responded, my eyes fixed on her.

She looked away from me, biting her bottom lip. “So… uhm-”

She stopped when I touched her lips, coaxing her from biting them.

“W–what are you doing?” she asked, a beautiful flush forming on her cheeks.

“You shouldn’t bite your lips,” I answered, still half asleep. “They might bleed.”

She looked at me, her eyes slightly wide, her lips parted. She suddenly jumped out of the bed, breathless, looking anywhere but at me, and that woke me up fully.

“I–I’m sorry,” she stammered, rubbing her left arm. “I had a nightmare last night and I wasn’t in my right mind when I burst into your room. I acted immaturely.”

I just stared at her, resting my weight on my elbows. “You’re acting weird, Belladonna.” Her eyes met mine for a brief moment before she looked away, the blush deepening. “Why are you apologizing for that?”

“It was embarrassing,” she muttered, looking at her feet.

“What’s so embarrassing about showing emotions? Or your fears?”

She finally looked at me, a hard look on her face. “Because it could be used against me.”

I sat up, the blanket slipping and her gaze slipped down, the look in her eyes growing heated. But she looked away too soon, swallowing.

I ignored that—even though my dick twitched. “Do you really think I’ll use your emotions and fears against you? You think I’ll stoop that low?”

“I don’t know!” she screamed, her chest heavily, her eyes wide and looking a bit… wild. “I don’t know, Kade. You’re confusing, like a damn maze. One moment the path is so clear, and the next I hit a dead end. What was last night about?”

“I don’t know,” I whispered, understanding where she was coming from. “I told you, I lost all reasoning when your scent fills my head.”

“That’s not a reasonable answer, Kade,”
