My eyes widened and I suddenly felt breathing. “W–what?” I stammered, almost shouting. “Kade is here?! Why?”

“Uhm… Sir, can I ask about your purpose for visiting?”

Kade’s voice came through, calm and… cold. “I need her to sign a document.”

“He needs you to sign a document, ma’am,” my assistant repeated, sounding a bit nervous.

Yeah, I could sympathize with her. Just hearing his voice alone, I could only imagine how cold his voice was.

I cleared my voice. “Let him in.”

As soon as I ended the call, I turned to Gianna,

my eyes wide.

“How do I look?” I asked, patting my hair.

She just gave me a bored look. “The same as you did this morning.”

I nodded. “Okay, still beautiful.” I waved her off. “Now shoo. He’ll be here any moment. I want to be alone with my husband.”

She just rolled her eyes but she left. And just as she was leaving, Kade was entering.

My heart kicked at the sight of him looking cold and sexy. Damn, he really looked cold. We were really back

to square one.

“Kade,” I greeted, swallowing.

He just looked at me with a bored look, waving a document in front of his face, blocking said face.

Not cool, I want to see his face.

“I need this document signed right now,” he said, his voice even colder than it was on the phone, his expression even colder. That kind of expression could turn someone to ice. “It’s important.”

I nodded too quickly, swallowing. “O–okay. Please bring it.”

He walked to my desk, dropping the document on my desk, shoving his hands into his pockets, and fixing a hard look on me.

I tried–I tried really hard–not to fidget as he looked at me with that chilling look. I picked up a pen, cursing my hand when it shook. I signed the document, picking it with a strained smile and handing it to him.

“Here,” I said with a smile that I knew looked too awkward and strained. “Signed.”

He took the document, nodding and he turned to leave without a word.

He turned to me, an eyebrow raised, his expression as cold as cold could be. “What?” he asked when I remained silent.

Shit. What was I going to say? “Oh… uhm… How… how’ve you been?”

His second eyebrow joined the first and he looked at me like I was dumb. “That is seriously what you wanted to ask?”

I nodded, swallowing. “Yes. Anything wrong with that?”

The look in his eyes finally stopped cold and lifeless and I could finally see a bit of his emotion, and what I saw was… frustration. “Yes, Belladonna. There’s everything wrong with that. Since you have nothing better to say I’ll get going.”

“What do you want me to say?” I asked as soon as he turned his back. He stopped, turning back to me with a more frustrated look. “Tell me, and I’ll say anything.”

He looked at me before he scoffed, the sound bitter. He was about to run his hand through his hair but when he remembered that his hair was tied, he groaned in frustration. “You’ll say anything I want you to?”

I nodded immediately, my neck almost snapping off with how hard I nodded. “I will.”

He turned to me fully, his hands back in his pockets, his expression once again cold–even colder than it was before. “Then say, ‘Fuck off, Kade.”

I blinked at him, feeling genuinely… hurt. “Why will I say that?”

“Because that’s what you want, no?” he asked, an eyebrow raised.

I blinked some more, my heart beating louder and faster. “Why… What- Kade, I don’t want any of that.”

He just glared at me, and I could almost feel the coldness from him seeping into my bones.

“You’re like a maze, Belladonna,” he said. “You’re filled with routes and dead ends. Sometimes there is progress with you. And sometimes it’s a complete dead end. Right now, it’s a damn dead end. And honestly? I’m okay with that. It’s far better than being hurt.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you,” I whispered, aching to reach for him. “I swear, Kade. I really didn’t mean to.”

“And yet, your words and actions are completely different. I don’t know what to think when I’m with you, Belladonna, I don’t know what to believe, so I’ll say we should remain this way.”

“But I don’t want to.”

“Why? Is it because you’ve lost your husband or your fuck toy?”

I hesitated and he took that as his answer. He turned again, and I knew this time there was nothing I would say that would keep me from seeing his back.
