Three Years Too Late for Sorry,Just in Time for My Freedom novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Richard immediately laughed it off. “You guys really think I’m just some old man obsessed with food? I was just asking.”

He turned to his friends with a smile. “Come over to the house sometime. When Gabrielle’s feeling better, you’ll get to try the real deal.”

Everyone laughed and the whole thing was gonna blow over.

But then me, who’d been sitting there quietly this whole time, suddenly spoke up.

“Grandpa, I’m really sorry, but I can’t make those anymore.”

Im not cooking for anyone else ever again.”

That made Harrison, who was usually all serious and didn’t say much, look totally pissed off.

He pointed right at his son. “Nicholas, get your wife under control. Who said she could talk to family like that?”

The man beside me clamped down on my arm, his teeth clenched, and hissed through his anger. “Gabrielle, what the fuck are you doing? Even if someone hurt your feelings, you don’t cause a scene at Grandpa’s birthday.”

I pulled my arm out of his grip and stood up.

Everyone could see the dark bruises he’d just left.

“Grandpa, I’ll cook for you and people I actually love anytime. But I’m not some restaurant chef who has to take abuse from random people.” I pointed straight at Evangeline.

Everyone turned to stare at her.

“Miss Cross has been using me as her personal chef. As Nicholas’s secretary, she doesn’t just eat his lunch every day – she also orders custom meals and makes me deliver them to the office.”

“I only found out about this recently. God knows how many people she’s been making fun of me with. I’ve been a total embarrassment to this family, so yeah, I’m definitely done cooking.”

“Enough!” Harrison went ballistic first.

The Ashfords might not have liked me, but I was still technically family.

Some outsider treating me like their personal servant was basically spitting in their faces.

ust like that, before dinner was even finished, Mr. and Mrs. Cross grabbed Evangeline and got the hell out of there.
