Three Years Too Late for Sorry,Just in Time for My Freedom novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Nicholas stared at himself in the vidro.

He couldn’t ignore what was right there on screen the other version of himself, smiling the entire time.

And I caught every emotion that crossed his face.

Shock and disgust with himself.

I walked over to him slowly. “Nicholas, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around something. I keep asking you for a divorce, but you won’t do it. Watching you just now though, I think I finally figured out why.”

He looked at me all confused.

“Your whole life, everything you were taught, your family-it all made you think you’re this perfect guy. This elite man who doesn’t make mistakes.”

“Your dad’s been faithful to your mom their entire lives. That’s what you think marriage should look like. But now you’re married and you’re cheating.”

“You can’t handle the fact that Nicholas Ashford would actually do something this shitty. So you refuse to believe it. You’re too scared to face it. As long as we don’t get divorced, you can keep lying to yourself that nothing happened. You can still pretend to be the perfect, clean-cut Nicholas Ashford.”

I shoved my bruised arm right in his face.

“Look at this. You just physically hurt your own wife because of Evangeline. This is the evidence. This is your ugly truth staring you in the face.”

“Nicholas, you’re not special. Actually, you’re way worse because at least other cheaters don’t lie to themselves like you do. You made me sick.”

That day, after I exposed all his dirty secrets, Nicholas ran out of the study.

Richard gave me some extra money as compensation.

Before our wedding, I’d signed this prenup in front of the whole Ashford family promising I’d never take their money.

But Richard said this was for pain and suffering and he forced me to take it.
