Chapter 104 Crazy Stunt
Beatrice caught the low murmur of Damian's voice.
What's with that tone?
Does he know some juicy details?
She tilted her head and glanced at him.
"Quit looking at me like that, alright? You're distracting me," Damian said, using his big hand to nudge her head back to where it was.
Beatrice was confused.
What's wrong with the way I'm looking at him?
I'm just glancing at him normally!
Feeling teased again, Beatrice shifted her focus back to the scene next door.
Over there, Jane looked like a total wreck, her face a mix of panic and near collapse.
She forced herself to pull it together and almost begged Zara, "Please, save my daughter, save her! I'll do anything you ask, anything!"
Zara kept her lips tightly sealed, her face twisted in pain.
She looked like she was possessed, her body starting to tremble violently.
The wooden tokens on the walls rattled louder and louder. One of them snapped in two with a sharp "crack," causing the idol on the shelf to crash to the floor. The lights in the room flickered wildly.
A voice, neither male nor female and without any clear age, came from Zara.
"I died a terrible death... I won't let her go... I want her dead... I want her dead..."
The last four words hung in the air, echoing like an omen of doom.
Jane was so terrified she could hardly scream.
"Violet, it's trying to take you over! It wants to kill Mrs. Jane Fairfax! Hurry, stop it..."
Zara's normal voice suddenly broke through the chaos.
Violet acted without hesitation.
She grabbed a kitchen knife and somehow dragged half a pig into the room.
Then, in front of Jane, she began chopping at the pig with wild abandon.
Blood and organs splattered everywhere. Some of it even landed on Jane's face, making her scream even louder.
She tried to run, but her legs gave out.
She could only crawl on the floor, on the verge of completely losing it.
Damian and Beatrice exchanged looks of pure shock.
Is this really happening?
Who wouldn't shit their pants?
Damian leaned closer to Beatrice and whispered, "Where did she learn this crazy stunt?"
"Probably from some horror flick. You know, the kind that gives you the creeps," Beatrice said.
It felt like forever, but finally, Violet stopped her wild butchering.
She stepped back, panting heavily.
Beatrice couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
Can you blame her for being beat?
Dragging a pig in here and going nuts like that.
Even Ethan would be wiped out after all that.
This witchcraft gig is no joke.
Violet wiped the sweat off her forehead and put the knife down.
"It's gone," she said.
A hush fell over the room, but the mess left behind was a sight to behold, like some invisible force had just gone on a rampage.
Jane no longer cared how she looked. She crawled to Zara's feet, screaming in fear, "Please, Ms. Celestine, help me!"
Zara remained silent.
"Mrs. Jane Fairfax! You're still hiding the truth from us!" Violet's voice turned cold as ice.
"I'm telling the truth! That kid just misunderstood my daughter! Can't you talk to him? Just let him go! I'll do anything! Please, help me get rid of him!" Jane begged, her voice full of despair.
Violet immediately refused. "Mrs. Jane Fairfax, if you keep up this charade, we really can't help you!
"It's not that Ms. Celestine doesn't want to help, it's that you haven't come clean! I told you before, to solve the problem, you have to tell the truth.
"Your lies have angered it, nearly getting us all killed! If you can't trust us, then what are you doing here? Leave now! Don't come back—there may not be a second chance!"
Her last words drained all color from Jane's face.
Suddenly, she collapsed at Zara's feet, pleading, "Ms. Celestine, you must have a way to help, right?"
Violet increased the pressure. "If you continue to stay silent, you're just waiting for your own doom."
Just as Violet was about to kick Jane out, Zara spoke up, "The gods see everything and can do anything. Although you've caused a lot of trouble, they can't bear to see you fall."
With that, she pulled out a necklace. "This charm has absorbed years of spiritual energy. If your daughter wears it, she'll be fine."
"Ms. Celestine! Thank you so much, Ms. Celestine!" Jane cried out, grabbing the necklace like it was a treasure.
Violet raised her voice. "No, Ms. Celestine! That charm was promised to Ms. Ashcroft! She's in trouble too! She's already paid ten million as a trust fee, and there's only one of these!"
Zara looked as though she'd been hit by a truck. "Oh, I completely forgot about that. What should we do now?"
"Give it to me! I need it more than her! I'll pay twenty million!" Jane screamed, clutching the charm tightly, afraid it would be snatched away.
"Mrs. Jane Fairfax, this isn't about money! Ms. Ashcroft has more faith, and she's more sincere!" Violet declared firmly.
Zara gently nudged Violet from behind. "Maybe we should give it to Mrs. Jane Fairfax. After all, we do have some connections."
"Ms. Celestine! She's not genuine! She'll drag us all down!" Violet shot back.
Zara stood her ground. "Violet, it's our duty to save people. We can't forget the purpose of what we're doing. This charm should go to Mrs. Jane Fairfax. Her family is in such dire straits—without it, she'll barely last three days!"
Violet put on a sympathetic expression, pretending to reluctantly agree to help. "Fine! But Mrs. Jane Fairfax, if you want to keep your daughter safe, she must wear this necklace at all times! If she takes it off, those spirits will attack her, and it'll be over!"
As she spoke, Violet glanced at Jane's shoulder, as if something—or someone—was hiding nearby.
Jane shuddered, trembling as she gripped Violet's hand. "Am I in danger too? What if it comes after me? Do you have any other charms?"
Just as Violet was about to reveal there were no other charms, Zara quickly produced a string of prayer beads from behind her. "Of course... Violet, let's help her!"
