Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 124

“I’ll have a family dinner arranged for tomorrow night. You can meet your relatives then,” said Mr. Hogan Chambers.

Judging by his tone, it sounded like he planned to make quite an event of it.

“As for the divorce papers, the waiting period is thirty days. Let’s go the day after tomorrow. Don’t worry—I’ll make sure everything is in order,” he promised.

Aurora finally let out a breath she’d been holding. No matter how powerful Daniel was, even he wouldn’t go against Mr. Chambers.

The divorce was as good as done.

Grandma Grace spoke softly, “Thank you for taking care of this.”

Mr. Chambers nodded eagerly. “Of course, of course. Consider it done.”

Leaning on his cane, he walked out, his posture oddly cheerful for a man his age.

Aurora felt a strange unease settle in her chest. She turned to look at her grandmother. “Why did you agree to this?”

Wasn’t she worried Mr. Chambers had some ulterior motive?

Grandma Grace’s smile was gentle and kind as she reached up to smooth Aurora’s hair. “Samuel’s about to leave for school overseas. Your parents resent you deeply, and they’ll try everything to make trouble for you.”

“But with Mr. Chambers supporting your career, the Quinns won’t dare push you around.”

It struck Aurora as odd—her grandmother actually trusted Hogan Chambers?

“You know him?” she asked, genuinely puzzled.

Hogan Chambers had always been a difficult man, looking down on everyone as if they were beneath him. Yet today, he’d been almost affable.

Aurora knew she didn’t have the power to make a man like him change his attitude.

Which meant—her grandmother did.

She understood Grandma Grace was doing this for her own good, but the unease didn’t go away.

“I’m not sure I can handle the kind of favors he offers,” Aurora admitted quietly.

She resisted the idea from the bottom of her heart.

Grandma Grace just smiled. It was a good thing Aurora was clear-headed, but when someone offered you help on a silver platter…

“Never look a gift horse in the mouth,” Grandma Grace said gently.

Aurora managed a wry smile. Her grandmother hadn’t answered the question.

Which only confirmed that she and Mr. Chambers knew each other, perhaps better than she’d realized.

After the shot, Aurora drifted in and out of sleep.

Daniel gently shook her awake. “There’s a press conference tomorrow. Samuel will publicly admit to what he’s done.”

“Okay,” she murmured, burrowing deeper under the blanket.

Daniel tucked the covers around her and leaned in, his voice low and intimate, “After the press conference, he’ll be put on a plane out of the country. Do you want to come to the airport?”

Samuel was leaving?

Aurora forced herself to focus. “What time?”

“Four in the afternoon.”

She nodded. “I’ll be there.”

This was something she had to witness for herself.

A flicker of something unreadable crossed Daniel’s eyes. He touched her forehead again, then let her rest.

Once her fever started to break, her breathing deepened and she slept more peacefully.

Only then did Daniel quietly slip into bed beside her, wrapping his arm gently around her, eyes dark with emotion.
