The tension in the air was palpable.
At last, it was Daniel who broke the silence. “Aurora, come here.”
There was a warning in his voice now.
Aurora lowered her eyes, hesitating, but in the end, she gave in.
She walked over and took his arm.
Daniel pulled her closer with a sudden force, his emptiness momentarily eased by her touch.
He draped his arm over her shoulders and drew her to his side, leaning on her as they walked away together.
The parking lot was quiet, deserted but for the two of them.
Daniel pressed Aurora up against the car door, his breath ragged as he kissed her—rough, desperate kisses that landed hard on her lips. It was as if he wanted to devour her whole.
“Aurora, do you love him?” Daniel’s voice was hoarse, almost broken.
Her lips stung, her mouth ached, but when she met his stormy gaze, there was only coldness in her eyes.
“It’s none of your business.”
She refused to mention anything about Louis to him.
Daniel’s restraint snapped; he was lost in pain and jealousy. “Louis left for Europe three years ago—was that why you agreed to marry me?”
He was terrified of the truth but couldn’t stop himself from asking.
Anger—fueled by the alcohol—boiled over, and he was overcome by a desperate need for her, for all of her.
Aurora dug her nails into her palm, trying to anchor herself. Daniel really had lost his mind, right here of all places...
“Daniel, don’t make me hate you.”
She bit down hard on his shoulder, her teeth sinking deep, tears spilling from her eyes.
The pain snapped Daniel out of his frenzy. He stopped, breathing heavily, slumping against her.
For a long moment, nothing but their harsh breaths broke the silence.
Finally, he yanked open the car door and pushed his wife inside.
The car sped away.
Not far off, from behind another vehicle, Monica clenched her teeth so hard it hurt. So, Aurora was that shameless after all. No wonder Daniel couldn’t let her go.
