“Louis?”
Grandma Grace’s voice trembled with excitement. “Where is he?”
Aurora’s eyes shimmered with joyful tears. “I’m not sure yet—but as long as he’s in Fairvale, I’ll find him.”
“That’s wonderful.” Grandma Grace dabbed at her eyes, unable to hide her relief.
Aurora squeezed her grandmother’s hand, offering comfort. Now that he was back, they’d see him sooner or later.
After staying with Grandma Grace for a while, Aurora left.
She hesitated for a moment before texting Louis, asking when he might have time to meet up.
An exclamation mark popped up in the chat window almost instantly.
Aurora stared at it, stunned. So, he had deleted her.
Before she could process the sting, her phone rang. Warner’s voice was bright with excitement. “Mr. Winters is back in the country! When do you have time? I can set up a meeting for you two.”
Back in the country… Winters…
Aurora’s heart skipped a beat; her voice wavered. “Is his full name Louis?”
Warner sounded surprised. “Wait, you’ve met him already?”
Aurora sank into the nearest chair. It really was him.
She silently reproached herself—why hadn’t she connected the dots, looked up the famous Mr. Winters before?
“Why did he leave the country?” she asked quietly.
Warner’s tone grew gentle, trying to reassure her. “I don’t know the details. Something happened, and the Winters family sent him overseas. But don’t worry, he’s brilliant. He’ll absolutely help you get through the divorce.”
“He’s back this time to get treatment for his child. I doubt he’ll be leaving again.”
Aurora’s chest tightened. His child…
Was that why Louis had changed his number?
“Did his child come back too?”
“Yeah. The little guy’s health isn’t great. That’s why Mr. Winters started taking those messy divorce cases for wealthy clients—to cover the medical bills.”
Warner paused, then added, “I was just about to visit his son. Want to come with me?”
“Yes. Which hospital? I’ll head over now.”
