Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 24

He’d always been a generous lover.

Now that they were divorcing, she doubted she’d ever meet another man so willing to please a woman in bed.

Lost in thought, Aurora barely noticed when Daniel leaned over and gently scooped her into his arms, laying her down on the king-sized bed.

“You’ve had a long day. Get some rest,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to her forehead and pulling her into his embrace.

Aurora was exhausted—bone-tired, even—but sleep wouldn’t come.

After who knows how long, she finally spoke in a low voice, “I’ll move out soon.”

She’d already hired an agent to look for apartments.

Since divorce was inevitable, there was no need to drag things out or risk another night like this. She didn’t want to blur the lines anymore.

Daniel narrowed his eyes, studying Aurora’s impassive face. Not long ago, they’d just shared the most intimate of moments. She’d resisted at first, but he’d half coerced her—and in the end, she’d surrendered, letting herself get lost in the pleasure.

Even now, the afterglow still lingered in his body.

And yet, at a time like this, she could utter such cold words.

The warmth between them faded in an instant.

“I told you, even if there’s only one day left, you’re still Mrs. Chambers,” Daniel said, his voice flat.

“Whether we divorce or not, that’s up to me.”

He threw back the covers and got out of bed, his voice rough and edged with chill. “Go to sleep. I’ll be in the study.”

A moment later, she heard the bedroom door open and close.

Silence engulfed the room.

Aurora closed her eyes, and tears began to slip down her cheeks.

The woman Daniel truly loved had returned from abroad. He could rekindle things with her anytime he wanted—so why refuse the divorce? Why cling to this marriage? Why insist on sharing their bed as if nothing had changed?

Why?

This life was agony.

Late into the night, Aurora finally cried herself to sleep.

When she woke the next morning, Daniel was already gone on a business trip.

Her phone buzzed with a message from him, reminding her to eat on time and take her medication.

He didn’t miss a detail, caring for her as if nothing had happened the night before. As if he hadn’t stormed off to sleep in the study.

Daniel softened his tone, “Is the food not to your taste?”

Aurora propped her chin on her hand. “I just don’t like it.”

In truth, he’d chosen all her favorite dishes, but the fact that Daniel had arranged them only made her resent them more.

Daniel seemed unfazed. He loosened his tie and unbuttoned his cuffs. “You need to eat, whether you like it or not. It’s good for your health.”

Maybe he was more patient now because he’d gotten what he wanted before leaving on his trip.

Aurora said nothing.

Daniel continued as if she hadn’t spoken. “My flight gets in at one in the afternoon, the day after tomorrow. Pick me up at the airport, okay?”

“I’m not coming,” Aurora replied lazily, hugging her pillow and turning away.

Daniel’s voice dropped, coaxing her, “Be good. I got you a present.”

“You’re so annoying.” Aurora rolled her eyes, reminding him, “We’re getting divorced. I don’t want your gifts.”

Daniel chuckled softly. “I like buying gifts for my wife.”

“You can refuse if you want, but Mrs. Chambers doesn’t have a choice.”
