The moment Drusilla heard the proposition, it felt like her head was going to explode. No, she couldn't accept this.

Blythe, noticing Drusilla's reluctant face, thought perhaps she was disdainful towards the two kids. Trying to persuade her, she said, “Those two have had a rough go of it, haven't they? Just look at them, out there without a decent set of clothes to their names. Now that you and Enoch have tied the knot, you ought to think of him more, and maybe nudge him a bit, to bring those kids back home. It's part of his duty as a father, don't you think?”

After spending some time with Drusilla, Blythe found her somewhat considerate and, interestingly, those two kids seemed to take a liking to Drusilla as well.

If Drusilla could just talk to Enoch and convince him to agree to bring the kids back, it seemed like a solid plan.

But no sooner had she finished speaking, Drusilla blurted out, “No, I can't agree to that!”

There was a definite edge to Drusilla's voice.

Blythe was taken aback as she looked at her, “Why?”

Drusilla could feel Blythe's eyes on her, which were full of surprise.

Yet, she plowed ahead and found enough excuses, “Enoch and I are married now, and as his wife, I just can't accept him having children out there.”

Might as well let Blythe think her refusal was because she looked down on the two kids!

However, she had married Enoch with her own children, and now here she was, claiming she couldn’t accept Enoch’s. It felt shamelessly hypocritical even for herself.

Blythe argued, “Our family is well off. Taking in two more children wouldn’t make a dent.”

Drusilla’s refusal was unexpected to Blythe.

Continuing, Drusilla said, “Yes, I know the Taylor family can easily afford to care for two more children, but... I just can't accept it. When we got married, Enoch told me he wouldn’t have eyes for any other woman, that I was his only darling, his sweetheart. If you bring those two kids back, Verena will have to come back too. I simply won’t have it.”

As she spoke, Drusilla forced a stern face. Actually, she was internally cringing at her own words.
