Marcella stood off to the side, her attempts to curry favor with Blythe falling flat. The moment Blythe laid eyes on Colton and Cormac, it was as if she'd seen her own grandchildren. This irked her a bit.
Drusilla sure knew how to play the game by cozying up to the influential with such ease, she mused.
She glanced at her son, Talbot, and urged, "Go on, go say hi!"
Perhaps kids had a way of winning hearts more effectively than any attempt she could make.
She didn't want her son to miss out.
But Talbot protested, "I don't wanna!"
"Why not?"
"I don't know her." Despite always calling himself the big boss among peers, Talbot was shy around elders, a trait slowly cultivated by Marcella's own insecurities.
"Just go say hello even if you don’t know her! Look at the other kids. Do it, and I'll get you some candy," Marcella coaxed, and wouldn’t give an opportunity to win over Blythe away.
"I don't wanna!" Talbot, pushed by Marcella, simply laid down on the ground in defiance.
Marcella was at a loss.
Blythe, preoccupied with Colton and Cormac, paid no mind to the others.
After greeting the kids, Blythe turned to Drusilla, "What brings you here?"
Caught off guard, Drusilla remembered she was out with Verena and had run into them by chance. She coughed and quickly fabricated a story, "I was out shopping for clothes for the kids and ran into Colton and Cormac. I've seen their live streams before."
Blythe, who had taken a liking to the boys without prior acquaintance, seemed to buy Drusilla's story, not probing further.
Marcella then approached, "Ma'am."
