Lilith was taken aback by Verena's sudden outburst. Just a moment ago, they were having a pleasant chat, and now Verena seemed on the verge of exploding.
What on earth happened?
"Did I say something wrong?" Lilith asked, genuinely puzzled by Verena's reaction.
Verena was seething and wanted nothing more than to give Lilith a piece of her mind. But she had to maintain a facade of indifference towards Drusilla for the sake of appearances.
Biting back her anger, Verena managed, "I just think it's appalling that after Drusilla married into the Taylor family, things are still this messy. Do commitments mean so little to you? Is marriage just a casual affair? And if that's the case, who knows if you will turn your back on my kids tomorrow?"
Lilith looked at Verena, a newfound respect in her eyes. "Ms. Garner, your words weren't exactly kind, but... you've made a valid point. Anyone else would've been thrilled to hear me badmouth Drusilla, but you actually got mad for her sake."
"Oh, you got a problem with that?" Verena wasn't about to back down.
"Of course not. On the contrary, I like you even more now. Just for this, you're already leagues better than Drusilla in my book," Lilith replied, her admiration for Verena growing.
In the future, once Verena became her aunt-in-law, Lilith was determined to build a good relationship with her.
Verena was taken aback that her harsh words had made Lilith like her even more, instead of angering her. For a moment, she wondered if Lilith was unwell.
Seeing Lilith continue to speak ill of Drusilla, Verena interjected, "Are you still going on about that?"
She had a soft spot for Drusilla and couldn't stand anyone talking badly about her.
Lilith quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that."
