Just the thought of Drusilla and Enoch divorcing, making Verena officially her aunt-in-law, filled Lilith's heart with a peculiar joy.
Blythe said, "I'll go back and ask him."
...
Drusilla and Enoch were still having dinner, her mind clouded with worries about the kids, making her seem distracted.
Enoch, trying to lighten the mood, loaded her plate with slices of pizza. "I thought you wanted to eat pizza. Why are you eating so little?"
"I'm dieting."
A smirk played on Enoch's lips. "Something on your mind?"
He had devoted his entire day to her, yet she hadn't offered him a single smile.
Though she hadn't mentioned it, he suspected she was still preoccupied with Verena's situation.
Drusilla looked down, sipping her iced tea. "No."
Enoch put down his fork, a man who valued sophistication, finding the pizza slightly beneath his usual elegance.
He rarely indulged in such casual dining experiences, but today, he had braved the casual setting just for Drusilla.
He caught Drusilla's gaze and said, "You know, I'm not usually a patient man."
"Oh."
"But today, I've spent the whole day with you, Ms. Lawson. Don’t you think you could be a bit more friendly to me?"
Drusilla's thoughts had been with the children all day, and she hadn't slept well the night before. Hearing Enoch's half-joking words, she realized he was trying to cheer her up.
No wonder this typically aloof man had stooped to visit her home twice today and waited downstairs for so long.
Drusilla knew he wasn't as unapproachable as he seemed. From the moment they met, if it had just been her awkwardly asking for his attention, he could have easily ignored her.
But he had always given her a chance!
