Down on her luck, that's where she ended up.
And Enoch... This man who could make Creston City dance to his tune, turned out to be even more naive than she was.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke. Her past was like a thorn lodged deep in her bones, impossible to pull out.
She had trusted Harlan once, and he had betrayed her. She couldn't bring herself to trust anyone again.
Enoch couldn't understand why, but her gaze suddenly made him feel a sharp pain.
Drusilla spoke up, "Since you won't agree to spare the Lawson family, I'm sorry, but I can't perform your acupuncture therapy today."
Surprised, Enoch found himself being blackmailed, "You seem to have forgotten your place. You don't really think you're the only acupuncturist in the world, do you? What you can do, others can too."
"Then I suggest you find someone else. I can't accept treating someone who's put my family into bankruptcy and my father into a hospital bed," she said, then nodded and turned to leave.
As she reached for the door handle, Enoch called out, "Please wait."
Drusilla turned back to look at him.
"I can spare the Lawson family." Enoch said.
He wasn't sure if finding another acupuncturist would actually help.
But at least, she was useful!
If she could really help him stand again, sparing the Lawson family seemed like a small price to pay.
Drusilla walked back, "I'm more than happy to continue treating you. Don't worry, I'll do my best to get you back on your feet."
With his promise, her mood lightened, and even her tone became more relaxed.
Enoch watched her silently, "I haven't finished. I have one request."
Drusilla looked at him, puzzled.
